Ya, Ya, I know, I'm probably trying to ride a dead horse, but this SMW Tournament gives Jermain Taylor a shot at redemption the likes of which few fighters ever get.

His first fight with Arthur Abraham is a potential great start. Right now most everyone is writing JT off, and Abraham is one of the most over rated fighters on the planet. If anyone doubts me, go over to Box Rec and check out this guys so called title reign, and then go over to "You Tube" and watch 3 or 4 of his fights. Against Abraham, Jermain has every advantage except one punch power. The myth that has grown up around AA is so huge that if Jermain beats him, he's right back on top, because in boxing, perception generally out weighs reallity.

A big win over Abraham could also give JT the boost in confidence, and the momentum to make it through to the finals. However, with this points system a KO is worth more than a decision, and I don't see Taylor knocking any of these guys out. That means he needs to win, win, win, because Abraham and Kessler will knock some guys out, and you can bet your house on that.

Anyway, if Jermain wasn't ruined by two brutal knockouts in two years, the first fight should be an easy one.

I really hope so. The only disappointing thing about this tournament to me is that Taylor doesn't get to fight Froch and redeam himself, because even if JT makes it to the semifinals, I can say for sure that Froch won't be there.

Despite 3 losses, including two highlight reel KOs, I'm STILL not ready to give up on the guy. If he could just ****ing comprehensively lose I would, but he still shows that ability and skillset that makes it possible for him to be a top guy. I think he has a very winnable fight against AA and if he wins that it could be exactly what he needs, mentally/psychologically. :good

Taylor's only shot at redemption is another gift decision. Most likely, he gets knocked out again.

    He's my outside pick.

He's been in with quality, far outweighing the quality he's up against, and was 14 seconds away from being the majority pick for this tourno on here.

I'd still pick Kessler but JT is right there for me.

    i agree with you completely.

taylor was a lightyeard ahead of these other guys in the way that he made his name but hes proved that hes a flawed champion.

after saying that, it would very naaive of anyone to write taylor off.

Boo, do you really think JT beats AA or is that just some of the hate from the PAV-AA threads?

I have a feeling Taylor will taking the fight with Abraham VERY seriously as it is a reality check for him, fighting outside his country for the first time in his professional career in front of a hostile foreign crowd, giving up the priviledge of home advantage he guarded so closely during his title reign and even through the Froch fight. Surely this experience alone will humble him.

Also, according to polls on this fansite and others, along with the opinions of many boxing writers reporting on the tournament, Taylor seems to be the longshot to win the tournament. Almost no one gives him a chance, much less favors him.

Hopefully he takes all this into account and realizes this is his last chance to prove himself and establish a lasting legacy in this sport, and trains like he never has before.

That said, I am a longtime fan and supporter of JT but cannot reasonably pick him to beat Abraham. Hopefully he corrects his flaws and surprises me, but I'm not betting on it.

    Yep.

The man was 14 seconds away from being the the favourite for this Tourno from anyone from Bookies,Journo's and Posters on this site.

To write him off is insane.

Can he? YES! Will he? I wouldn't bet on JT fighting smart, and he needs to fight smart in this one. He has the skills and the experience to clown Abraham for 12 rounds, but who knows if he can finally put it all together in the same night.

I too think JT has a very good chance to beat AA based on AA's style. JT will likely win most all of the early rounds without working that hard since AA is a terribly slow starter.

This will allow JT to conserve his energy and still have enough left to win 1-2 rds past rd 6 and survive to the bell with AA taking all the championship rds.

JT has enough pop to make sure AA stays in his shell and enough reach to win some close rds with his jab, even if it doesnt land clean. I dont think JT can beat Kessler or outbox Ward, but he wont have to face both of these guys. He has a decent chance here.

And what if the 8 pounds really helps AA and his work rate is higher?
