Jermain Taylor has been the most criticized and doubted undisputed champion of the past couple years. This question is thus directed at his critics.

In defeat, did he gain your respect?

In my mind, Taylor has several fatal flaws:

    1) Questionable stamina, possibly related to mental exhaustion due to stagefright.

    2) A left hand that appears to weigh 75 pounds. Why else would he keep it so low?

    3) Forgetfulness about his feet. I predicted Taylor would win a tough decision based on his ability to move laterally -- and he does have this ability -- but he seems determined to stand flat-footed. Maybe this is related to the conditioning/mental fatigue issue.

But having said all that, I thought he proved the other, usual criticisms to be bunk.

    1) He is not a joke or a runner. That's silly. He actually should have boxed, but he chose to trade.

    2) China chin. His beard is every bit as good as Pavlik's and maybe better. The fact that he remained upright after that killer right hand -- after already taking a series of flush shots -- should kill any of the glass jaw stuff.

I think Jermain still has a bright career, but I don't think he'll do well against the elites at 168 or higher. But he's a credit to the sport, and deserves better than to be called an HBO hypejob.

Yes, but I would to see how he responds in his next couple of fights after his first loss.

I agree with everything you just said. Except I think he can definetly beat the elites at 168.

He's a good fighter, but not great.
I think he showed by not blowing through the old timers that he faced, and barely getting questionable decisions that he was not the next great thing in boxing.
I thought Kassim Ouma would have gave him hell if he had anything to hurt him with

Jermains good and deserves respect, but an active big puncher with a good beard has his number.

He did well in defeat, like Judah against Cotto. Redeems himself with a loss.

He gained my respect as a fighter because he actually came out trying to make a statement, even if with no poise and flawed.

He was the poster boy for boxing corruption for a while, which was not all his fault, but he doesn't have much left to offer. I respect Taylor for coming out and giving it his absolute best shot at beating Pavlik, he was in great shape and was definitley in his best form yet from that area, however, he just wasn't good enough.

Taylor was a hype job, because people were so high on him being some set elite future ATG a ways back, but now the hype has died down and he's just a solid B+ level fighter.

But I give him credit for what he was trying to do against Pavlik, it almost worked in fact.

I've already asked him that question...

And yes, I give a ton of credit to Taylor. He may not have fought the smartest fight, but he gave it his best shot. Jermain may have all the physical attributes in the world, but lacks in ring smarts. Hard to be a totally complete fighter.

Taylor does not have a china chin. The guy was taking some good shots up until the 7th round and he wasn't hurt. He should've boxed more from the outside instead of just standing in front of Pavlik's zone all fight long.

The guy has all the talent in the world but he just doesn't know how to use all of it the right way. And i doubt he ever will. I still think he can beat Pavlik if they fought again if he boxed more. Yeah, it's ***** stuff but that's what the superior boxer is supposed to do. You only brawl if you have to. If you have the skills to pick your spots and not get hit, that is what you should do.

Taylor was never a joke or hype job:nono

If you cant give him credit for this performance?

    :blurp :blurp :blurp

Ultimately, he wasnt the best man on the evening. He will be seen again, yet where, and how effectively, depends on circumstances. Personally, I hope to see the rematch at 68 with Pavlik right away. Whoever wins? Is thus set up to face the elite's of 68 and whether successful or not? The best vs the best is what its ALL ABOUT:yep

Say whatever you like about Taylor but you cant deny he walked a Championship path in opposition.:hat

Well, knowing Taylor, i knew he would try to get Pavlik's trust. But that's part of his problem. He has a simple minded attitude and didn't think about the fact that the guy he is fighting has power also. But he did what he did and he almost pulled it off. Only because he lost are we questioning him. Imagine if he had finished Pavlik in the 2nd.
