Well, well. What a shocker! Frank Warren had some bad things to say about Calzaghe. His views were hardly coloured by the falling out they had and the subsequent court case,which Warren lost.

Tell us when a Calzaghe-Toney fight would have been even a remote possibility ?

Toney's last bout at 168 was in July of 1994. After tha he moved up to 175.

Nobody had heard of Calzaghe at that point. His career was just starting, he had fought five times. He did not get a shot at the title for another three years, by which time Toney was almost 200 lbs . And James has neve got any lighter.

So when was this mythical match-up to take place ?

Bottom line JT was the undisputed middleweight champion who at that time was more respected in Major boxing circles and wasn't going to UK to fight this dude a weight class above him. He was pretty clear that if you want to lay out the bread he'll come over there and fight him and fight at his weight, but if not coming with the right money he can forget it. Why the **** would Jermain (especially at that time) come over to UK to fight Joe, JT was the man, point blank.

i think everyone would be in agreement that lacy before the calzaghe fight was considered a whole lot more dangerous than pavlik was at any point in his career.

Taylor ducked Howard Eastman when they were due to fight for the right to challenge Hopkins (Taylor did a runner after losing the pursebid), hence Eastman getting a shot at Hopkins before Taylor.

Then he ducked a fight for the vacant WBC supermiddleweight title against Froch in favour of fighting Lacy in an eliminator for the same title shot.

And he would have ducked Froch again were it not for Froch, despite being champion, being willing to go over the Atlantic to kick his arse.

Taylor has stamina issues, he was never beating Calzaghe.

 

i wasn't gonna bring any of that up because i like taylor, but yeah, that's the truth.

 

In reference to the topic title, however, Taylor did not duck Calzaghe.

Unless you consider him losing to Pavlik to constitute ducking Calzaghe.

The fight would have happened had he beat Pavlik, there were no attractive contenders at middleweight. Almost certainly in the USA.
