Jermain Taylor ducked Calzaghe

i'm not gonna rag on taylor and say he ducked calzaghe, even though he was offered the fight.

hopkins and jones on the other hand, were duckers!!

they went round shouting there big mouths off, saying that there'd fight anyone (including calzaghe) but when it came round to negotiations, they ran like pussies.

taylor on the other hand, was more respectable, and not going round saying he wanted to fight calzaghe and then pulling out at the negotiation stage.. like the two that iv'e already mentioned.

 

Come on dude. You have read the quotes from Joe Calzaghe himself saying he didn't want tough fights and the one where he said it would take the crown jewels to get him in the ring with Jones. No need to repost them...I've posted them several times already. This is the same Jones, who in his prime, JC wanted no part of but was more than willing to fight 3 years after saying he was shot and wouldn't.

 

i ain't reading through pages 5 to note, like others, the irony of a calzaghe fan saying someone else ducked. taylor has a better resume than calzaghe. that's ****ing sad considering how many longer calzaghe fought and that he was a titlest for much of that time. taylor ducked no one. shut up

 

I've re-watched many fights during that time. And the HBO crew talk of champions in the division...and they barely even mention Calzaghe. Even his WBO title was considered marginal compared to the others.
In the end, this sport is a business. You have to sell yourself. And during that time, the money generally came with a big fight on HBO. That means pre-selling yourself. Naz did it, Hatton did it, Lewis did it. Calzaghe decided not to.
That was his business decision. And he probably made the right business decision. Legacy-decision wise....not so good.

Calzaghe won a close and disputed decision one fight removed from Pavlik's loss. Which is it, Hopkins is a tough worthy opponent or he was a washed up 43 year old. You can't have it both ways **** for brains.

 

JT never ducked anyone, same cant be said for joe. JT might not have beat him but i guarantee he wouldve fought him

 

Calzaghe was a ***git who stayed at 168 for years in a weak division to avoid the true talent at 175. It sounds just like him to challenge the 160 champion and ask him to come up in weight, fight in the UK with his biased ref and judges and low ball him on top of it.

 

When did that happen? Or do you mean when Calzaghe, Warren and Showtime offered Hopkins a contract to fight in the US, with Hopkins biased ref and judges, and, far from being a low ball, Hopkins took less money to avoid it?

 

I didnt call Hopkins a tough worthy opponent or say he was washed up thicko. You said Pavlik was dangerous before Martinez and I said what when he was being punched silly by a 43 year old Hopkins who clearly lost to Calzaghe.

Not necessarily but if he's going to take his titles and his record to UK to fight a Super Middleweight, yeah he deserved to be compensated correctly. I have no idea what fair market value is/was, what I do know is that serious negotiations never took place and JT's track record speaks for itself. You can "say" what you want, but Joe didn't fight a fraction of the opposition JT did and that sir is a fact.

at that time, lacy was considered to be more dangerous than pavlik has ever been in his career.. if you can't accept those facts, then that's not my problem.
