either way, my hate for calzaghe knows no bounds. sure taylor would have got his ass kicked but the one thing you could always say about him is that he never ducked a challenged, even if he overestimated his worth

 

i like taylor, iv'e never ragged on him.you have never seen me call him a ducker, because i don't think he is.

 

I don't think either fighter ducked the other here, but there's no way Taylor would ever have come over to the UK. He refused to fight a world title eliminator against Howard Eastman because he lost the purse bid and would have had to travel. He was going to refuse a world title shot at Cal Froch because he would have had to travel until Froch decided to take him on his own patch. I have respect for Taylor but I don't think he knew what a passport was until the super six came about.

 

Calzaghe = Elite

Taylor, Pavlik = Not Elite. American level fighters who made their names off hopkins - Taylor cause he beat him and Pavlik cause he beat they guy who beat him. but in reality both were **** fighters and got brutally exposed.

 

How can Taylor duck a fighter from another division?

 

Ridiculous.

They're **** fighters because they lost a fight or 2 to quality opposition? To me, that's the kind of thinking that has boxing in so much trouble.

But it's what can happen when you fight quality fighters...... there is a risk of losing. It's what people want to see. They don't want to see an "elite" fighter take on unworthy competition for close to a decade.

 

If I were JT, I'd rather duck than get slapped for 12 rounds.

that's all the explanation you need for why he fought so many bums instead of taylor, and waited for jones and Hopkins to turn 40 before daring to face them.

Since Jermaine is much younger than calzaghe, calzaghe couldn't wait till Jermaine was 40something in order to reduce his chance for a tough fight with him, as with Froch et Dawson et al. But if Joe was younger than them and could have waited till they were 40something he definitely would have, going on the evidence of what he actually did and said.

 

Jermain Taylor has had one of most difficult schedules of any fighter in recent memory and win or lose he's been competitive with every single one of them. I seriously doubt that Taylor would ever duck Calzaghe. A breakdown in negotiations can be as a result of an impasse or bad faith. But not fear.

remember also that Sir Jermaine possessed genuine world titles and made genuine defences of them before Calzaghe managed to get one genuine world title, so the onus for chasing was on Joe, Sir Jermaine being recognised as the greater and higher acheiving fighter and being a HOFer before Joe for ousting Bhop before Joe Calzaghe achieved HOFer candidacy by notching up his 21 defences against largely bums.

Again note, Sir Jermane did in two fights with bhop what Sir Joe took ten years to achieve, a clear indication of the class gulf between Bad Intentions and the Wales's Pride and Best.

 

And what, today, brought about this necromancy of a thread that's been dead for three years? I mean, apart from your obsession with and hatred for Calzaghe.

Oh, alright. Give Taylor his dues then. A very good fighter who gave everyone he fought a difficult time but not quite elite-level and very lucky to get the wins over Hopkins, also, one could argue, very unlucky to get stopped by Froch in the final round of a fight he was dominating.

He still did better than Calzaghe and actually gave Hopkins a rematch.
