In the site that Talks Boxing some dickweed suggested Jermain Taylor is FEATHER FISTED??? Give me a ****in break! I'm not a Taylor fan but he stunned Hopkins, floored Pavlik and was the first to drop Froch. You can't pigeon hole the guy as feather fisted?? WTF lol. Since 2005 Taylor has fought Hopkins twice, Wright, Spinks, Ouma, Pavlik twice, Abraham and Lacy. Only Spinks and Lacy have been stopped ONCE a piece. Not blowing these guys away is hardly evidence of being FEATHER fisted is it? Prior to his title win and subsequent run against World Class/ Elite opposition Taylor was mostly knocking his opponents out or stopping them. Journalists are pricks sometimes.
Idk how well u will get a response from some of the posters on here...a lot feel he was nothing but an HBO hypejob.
Taylor wasn't as commited as he should have been but you don't fight two close "could go either way" fights with Hopkins if you're a hype job! Audley Harrison turned out to be a hype job. Not Jermain Taylor. The guy just didn't have the diligence!
This. Fairly average power on a single shot basis. He was an exceptionally poor finisher which, along with his stamina, contributed to less stoppages than he could have had.
Well he's not a big puncher by any means, but labelling him as feather-fisted is not accurate. He can pack a punch.
One shot almost ripped Pavlik's head clean off and Kelly has never been shook since. Regardless he wasn't feather fisted by any means and labeling him such is ****in gross. That writer can **** off or let Taylor crack him on the chin! I hate little pussies disrespecting fighters like that.
Taylor has/had good speed and good technique - he had good power, not concussive, stellar power, but he certainly had enough.
He definately have good power! But he is a lousy finisher (guess thats were the feather-fist quote comes from) If he did a better job by finish his oponent when they hurt, he would certainly have stopped both Pavlik and Froch
I always thought of Taylor as a "strong" puncher as opposed to being heavy handed. I put him the same category with Peter and Berto in that they are physically strong and derive a certain amount of power from that, but they aren't classic power punchers. That said, calling Taylor feather fisted is ridiculous.
No i disagree with them Journalist,JT is not featherfisted Hes no Gerald Mcclellan ,but I would say his power is Average
'feather fisted' that's outrageous. i wouldn't say he packs any power backing up but when he plants or steps forward i think he's among the hardest combination punchers out there. those short right hand counters when froch was throwing wild hooks were beautiful, powerful punches
no he's not featherfisted. he had good but not great power. what he was great at was bringing that overhand right over the top of a left jab. it was a thing of beauty when he timed it right. it got kelly in trouble and eventually on the canvas and the same with froch. both very tough men with good chins.
