Jermain Taylor let Pavlik survive

so Ozell Nelson is gonna be the deciding factor in the rematch?? I don't think it was Steward's fault for Taylor's loss. Taylor should've kept Pat Burns, or at least took him back.

 

Manny Steward cared more for Taylor than you do. He was his trainer, he trained him for months. Don't talk crazy.

The fact is that Taylor is an amazing athlete but mentally not a great fighter -- he often fights the wrong fight and doesn't listen to his corner.

He doesn't duck anyone, and I respect him for it, but in my opinion, he'll never hold a title again.

 

Pavlik wins by ko sooner this time,unless JT goes into survive mode.

 

Good post, but I disagree with your rematch prediction. I would be surprised if Taylor can take Pavlik in fight #2. I just don't think he has that special ability to calculate and make adjustments in the ring the way great fighters do, he relies too much on his instincts. His stamina is horrible too, maybe the extra weight will help the stamina but I doubt it. If he pulls it off though, it would be a huge accomplishment considering how that last fight ended. Like you said, if Taylor can overcome that loss, it would proove that he's a real champion.

 

Which fighter are you trying to disparage? Pointing out that JT was tired in the second round and was throwing "wild-ass" punches does not make him sound too stellar.

You have to give Pavlik credit for surviving that round. Regardless of how he was hurt, to make it though with that much time left took chin, ring smarts, and a will to win. To come back out for the third like nothing happened takes massive recover as well.

JT did not lose because of Manny. Let's face it, he doesn't even listen to Manny. He lost because he has poor stamina, relies on altheticism and not technique, and failed to capitilize on the one time he was lucky enough to hurt Pavlik.

At this stage of the game, JT's physical advantages won't get him over the hump. When you get to the Championship level, its 90% mental, as the old saying goes. And in that department, KP has him beat every time.

And guess what? I'm here writing about the KP vs JT fight, when my wifes yells to me "Pavlik is on HBO". Here on the east coast at 8pm, HBO just replayed the fight. They are showing all the top fights from 2007. Its always good seeing that one again. Taylor put up a hell of a fight, but Pavlik all around is just too good.

 

Umm he did stick his chin out and was showboating, I don't know why he became so careless but he wont do it again that's for sure. Also I can't believe your still whining about that fight, Taylor got ktfo so deal with it.

The title of this thread is such bull****, JT was beaten by a better, more hungry fighter.

I was never a Taylor fan in the past, but I became one last September 29th. Pavlik is my favorite fighter right now, but damn! JT fought like a like a true champion, and the man went out on his shield like a warrior should. He is also the first Pavlik victim who ever had the balls to ask for a rematch.

The basics of what the JT supporters seem to be saying is that Taylor lost because he wasn't a good enough fighter to win! To let you know where Taylor really stands as a Pavlik opponent; he lasted aproximately 90 seconds longer than Bronco McKart. One major difference: Bronco got up and wanted to go on, but the ref called it. JT had to ask what happened. Dang: that must hurt!:bbb

Taylor not having the stamina is not the same as letting Pavlik off the hook. :nut

The fact is Taylor through everything at Pavlik but couldn't finish him off. He was beaten fairly - deal with it. Some people, not me, had Pavlik up or level(ish) by the time of the stoppage and many observers saw a competitive fight, which it was.
