Jermain Taylor..Overrated or Future ATG?

    Ok..first off,i dont like the guy!! I think he is overrated and another HBO

    hype-job.I see JT gets alot of respect here on ESB and thats cool

    because when you like at his resume it looks pretty good and has some

    good names on there.But..(IMO) he lost the first fight to B-Hop..i think

    they gave him the fight because he was a new face and had pretty good

    boxing skills and B-Hop was this old geezer that had been champion 4ever

    and was on his way out(so they thought).I thought B-Hop landed the

    harder and cleaner punches and he also hurt JT..JT threw more punches

    but he missed alot and never hurt B-Hop.The 2nd fight should have been a

    draw!Then he fights Winky and IMO he lost the fight..then he fights Ouma

    and Spinks and he looks like **** in those two fights.And then Pavlik comes

    along and whoops that ass(i knew he was gonna KO JT when i saw him

    flippin that 400 pound tire..i bet my brother that Pavlik would win by KO).

    Then they fight again and JT puts up a better fight but still loses.Then he

    beats SUPER-BUM(Lacy) which everyone knew was gonna happen!And

    then he gets a title shot at SMW(WTF?).What has he done in SMW to get

    a title shot so quick?He's coming off of two defeats and beating a SUPER-

    BUM So IMO I dont think the guy is all that good.He has good

    boxing skills..but he will never be an ATG in my book!!

    What you guys think?

    he beat a man who went onto win a title at 175 and beat the **** out of the man that beat taylor himself ...

    The thing about Taylor is He has ducked no one. He put his carreer on the line in the second Pavlik fight. The man had just knocked him out quite brutally and he did not hesitate to fight him. He has fought the best and will continue to do so Hype job or not he aint a ***** and he is a good fighter. This is why i love Taylor

    no not overrated but has been giving some dodgy decisions

    against winky, b-hop, and spinks

    A "super bum" who was an ex-champ in that division and had won all his fights since losing the title. That makes Taylor a credible title challenger no matter what your opinion of Lacy.

    Good points! And thats true he did fight Hop(x2) and Pavlik(x2) and i give credit for taking those fights i just think he is overrated as hell!!

    :patschDid you see him fight Mendoza?And i didnt know all you had to do is fight an ex-champ and get a title shot?

    I wouldn't say he is overrated, he beat and lost some of the best out there..

    Also, what's with the overuse of the "overrated" word these days?

    I asked because i saw a thread that was asking... Who was an ATG? Taylor or Calzaghe...and that just let me know that people think this guy is something great..and that to me is overrated!!

    just win titles in three different division can your ATG status is secured. i think taylor still has enough following to enable him to fight titleholders despite not going into the title eliminator process. i just hope kessler won't duck him. he needs kessler for his legacy

    Thats the problem with esb, you are overrated or an ATG, things are not always that black and white, some boxers belong to the big grey section...

    I was asking because its like 3 or 4 threads where he's being talked about like he is a future ATG and i think that there.. is the true meaning of overrated

    Yeah he is what he is a former undisputed world champion who lost to a better fighter and he is back in the hunt at another weight class. Not an ATG, especially now but still world class.
