Jermain Taylor return at 160lbs

he was a good athlete but he just fought like he was a sportsman of his ability pretending how to fight. his right hand when he threw that jab was appalling, dropped so low he was almost blocking his thigh. even with manny steward almost leaving his corner mid fight against spinks because he wouldn't throw. and showed him how open he was when he did. and also his spread out flat footed legs meant he could throw with some venom and move his head out the way but it just lead to him being cornered and usually got outfought.

also the way he leaned over and had his left incredible low i think was his weakness and his strength in terms of strategy. becuase his head was so far over his legs he was hard to pin down because he would just move an dbe miles away. hopkins usually sharp precise,counter right hands sometimes didnt even come close.

it's ridiculous how far he got with such basic technique.



BUT!!!!!

he is a good fighter all things considered, he is rugged, he knows how to get a win, he is cagey and the way he fights outside himself, which clearly had hopkins befuddled at points. and when he won the 160 belt he clearly was aggressive awkward lanky but subtle. he was wrongly boxed into a boxer/technician/slickster who was thrust into the crown with hopkins in recent minds with tito and winky still around and with a captive audience he was thrust by hbo to be the amazing next best thing. which any fighter f given that would be be crushed. had he won a title an defended it then fought hopkins he would be considered a different type of fighter. when he wasn't, he was something else.

i think it was just a shame how he was almost discarded as soon as he lost.

 

Who said is eye was still bad? Plenty of boxers fight on after they've made decent money.

You have a retired fighter coming back and a fighter who took a break for an eye injury. Thats it.

I didn't think Taylor retired, LDB dumped him because he didnt want him hurt but taylor never stopped training just said he was gonna take a long break. Kessler didn't retire and coming back looking for title shots isnt exactly dodging.

 

Not big enough for 168. Froch already KO'd him, i bet on Kessler, Ward, Bute all to beat him now.

At 160 he has already been brutally KOd of Abraham who is also moving back down to 160, cant see a bout with Martinez going down well. Big punchers such as GGG and Lemieux hoping to move into his level over the next year or tow.

He should have a rubbermatchwith Hopkins, that would be interesting, if he comes back at 160lbs I wouldn't rule him out of beating Martinez if he can get back to his best, now that'd be a story
