I mean, when this guy was struggling against Welterweights, did anyone of yous raise an eyebrow?

Outside of Bernard Hopkins, at middleweight, who has this guy beaten? SD against Cory Spinks? Draw against Winky Wright? KO losses to Pavlik, Froch and Abraham.

And unlike the Froch and ABraham fights, where he was broken down over the course of the fight and stopped. Against Pavlik he was actually outboxed. Taylor had no answer for Pavliks jab.

So besides 2 shaky decisions against Bhop, was this guy ever really that good? Or just an average fighter who got lucky twice against an aging guy who probably shouldnt have been fighting at middle anymore?

Taylor was an exceptionally gifted athlete who was moved carefully in the rankings fighting blown-up jr. middles or past it middleweights.

In retorpect, seeing how B-Hop was competitive at 175, Taylor just has B-Hop's number. They could fight a hundred times and the result will be the same. He wasn't as good as those wins made him look.

Then the KO loss to Pavlik ruined him. He's still a world-class boxer, but he's not world championship caliber anymore.

I think HBO was pushing as the next big thing and he did look amazing against lower level opposition, but yea kind of overhyped. He's got great heart and should probably retire though after Abraham sent him to the hospital.

Too many threads on this topic, Zakman will surely comment.

Jermaine fights ANYONE, unlike 99% of boxer's today, so I don't really care.

If the guy could learn how to keep his left up and defend the right hand he'd be OK.

The man promised to fight the best and that's what he always did, of course for doing that he would be called "overhyped" and nonsense like that.

Then ******ed fans, like you, would start threads about how they are overhyped for fighting the best. If they don't fight the best then they're frauds and if they do and struggle they're overhyped frauds.

Jump out of the window, face first.

Jermain Taylor is one of few men who, with HBO backing him up, took on the hardest task available no matter what, and never ducked nobody, never complained and did his job.

Whats the use of "fighting the best" if you lose to all of the best, and struggle against the average.

Put this in your mind for a moment. SD over Cory Spinks. SD over Cory Spinks. SD over Cory Spinks

Let that simmer there for a moment

you do realize how many fighters would be "overrated" on this board if they had the sack to get in the ring w/ the level of competition taylor has?

    think about that

I agree, people that can't respect a man like Jermain needs to seriously evaluate themselves. Disgraceful at best to be honest.:-(

I'd pick Andre Ward at 25 and still raw over every single fighter Taylors faced. Froch, Pavlik and Abraham are good. But they arent elite fighters by an stretch of the imagination. Hell, he was dropping rounds to Froch late in the fight. It wasnt like it was 11-0 rounds and Froch got a miralce. You could see Froch breaking him down from round 7 on.

I don't think he was over hyped, I think he personally failed the boxing machine. They saw all his raw talent and gave him a shot to be a star. He fell short on his own, but he tried pretty hard. I just think it's a case of failed potential.
