I was impressed with Taylor that night. I never saw anyone get through winky's defense like that before.

Maybe he had too much too soon and thought he 'made it' before he 'made it'

What does it matter you'd pick someone to beat all the men Taylor stepped in with? Look at the depth of elite calibre fighters on his record, can you tell me anyone else today that fought this strong opposition and never once complained or put on a good show?

Since capturing the titles against Hopkins, he defended them against Hopkins, Wright, Ouma, Spinks.. on top of that he went back to back with Pavlik, bounced back with a win over Lacy and fought Froch and Abraham. Looking ahead he'll fight Ward and Kessler.

You are talking about the Cory Spinks fight as though it defines Jermains career, who looked good against the slippery unwilling to fight Spinks?! Let's not forget it was Spinks that made that fight what it was, not Jermain.

Overrated and exposed are words which are used way too often in this shithole. Do you realize how exposed Ali would be on here after losing to Frazier, or how exposed Bernard Hopkins would be against Mercado the first time out?

i agree jermain had his moments and so did winky. and mind you, that winky was only one year removed from absolutely dominating tito. the ward who just fought kessler (and i picked him to beat kessler) would get a lesson from that version of winky wright.

    Cory Spinks is average?

A former undisputed welterweight champion who unified all belts, a guy who got Taylor confused even though he was moving up, a guy who beat Mayorga(handed him his first loss since he beat Forrest), Jones(who beat Margarito and of course as usual Margarito didn't even bother to ask for a rematch, he wanted peanuts over money instead, literally), Judah and Karmazin is average?

He's not ATG but not average either, if you think he's average you must have serious mental issues. This is funny, you don't think Clottey is gatekeeper stuff but Spinks is. This isn't a contest of who entertains you more, if you don't understand what they're doing in the ring then that's your problem.

Amen!! This guy's career is a MIRAGE!! He fought the usual suspects, got gifts against Hopkins and Wright, then fought smaller guys like Spinks who he didn't even beat convincingly. And, as soon as he fought top rated guys in their prime at his weight, he began to get beaten badly.

The biggest HBO hype job since Michael Grant. An average fighter, at best.

Like I said, only one fighter on his resume is elite. And thats hopkins. An aging hopkins who probably should have been at LHW already. The rest were average to good. Spinks. Average. I mean he couldnt decisively beat a Welter:rofl. Blown up fading Winky Wright, a draw. Pavlik good. Abraham good. Froch, average-good. No elites sorry. Its not like he went threw Hagler and Monzon here.:deal

Taylor couldnt KO a guy Judah KO'd. Nuff said.

Yeah, if you don't completely destroy Cory Spinks, you are an overrated fraud.

And edging out a draw against a near prime Winky Wright makes you the single most overrated and overhyped fighter of the decade. :rofl

    Hopkins x2
    Wright
    Ouma
    Spinks
    Pavlik x2
    Lacy
    Froch
    Abraham

These fights are ALL back to back.

Jermaine Taylor deserves respect. Anyone who disrespects this man in anyway are not boxing fans, and can go suck dick.

I dont remember him being overrated and overhyped, no one ever claimed he was great but he edged 2 decisions from Hopkins and will go down in the history books for it

Taylors not that good to me so dont know what this statement means. A welterweight confusing a middlewieght is bad rofl.
Sorry, these were all welterweight or superwelterweight fights. If Taylor had fought Cory Spinks at 147, maybe this would mean something. It doesnt. Its like saying Clottey beat the same Corrales then Mayweather. Are you kdding me? Cory was a decent fighter at welter. Nothing special. But an SD over him at middle? GTFO.
Spinks would be a gatekeeper at best at middle. Yeah. So are you drunk or something?

So what. He got blatant gifts against Hopkins and Wright, struggled with Spinks - who was a welter for goodness sake. Ouma was another lighter-weight fighter, and Lacy was even more overrated at one time than Taylor himself. By the time Taylor fought him he was done.

All the other guys beat him. I love how some boxing fans think just because you step in the ring with great fighters this makes you great! By these standards Everett "Bigfoot' Martin should be the greatest of all time!!!
