Chad Dawson is far more on a level with Abraham than with Roy Jones, Hopkins etc.

Solid post, and I believe it's entirely fair to believe that it was taking it out of Hopkins to still make the weight.

What has me questioning things is simply the different treatment of similar circumstances- and I think Dawson-Adamek is as close as a comparison that can be made and it illustrates the point. Adamek was a formidable light heavyweight, but the weight drain was taking a toll on him; he immediately jumped up 20 pounds to greater success than he enjoyed at 175. It mirrors the end of Hopkins' middleweight campaign, although Hopkins was obviously far more accomplished at his original weight than Adamek was. As such, Taylor's fights with Hopkins were closer than Chad's win over Admek. Hops then jumped up a good amount of weight, like Adamek, and rejuvenated his career with his accomplishments there. Both men would go on to win the Ring title in their new weight class.

So, the fallout of this is that people are saying Adamek's post-LHW success is a credit to Dawson. Perfectly reasonable opinion. Yet, as time goes on, Jermain somehow seems to be getting less credit for beating Hopkins despite Hopkins proving his class once he moved up and in all likelihood, being the tougher matchup at the time of the fight.

My final question is- Why the disconnect? Am I off base, or does that not look like the definition of a double standard?

I feel both Pavlik and Abraham have done more impressive things in their careers than Froch, who alos just got a gift decision. I am biased, perhaps Froch proves me wrong but I don't see a great future for him. I can envision Pavlik dominating at 160 for some years and Abraham winning the super six.

Says the clown who said Ward and Dirrell would get destroyed in the tournament and that if JT was prime he'd win the whole thing easy.

Sorry dope, when was Taylors prime. SD'ing Cory Spinks? Drawing with Winky Wright? :rofl

Dawson dominated Adamek while he was still prime, and would be favorited heavy to beat him today. Taylor barely beat an old hop. And I dont think anyone would favor Taylor over Hop currently.

You said 'Until someone actually beats Abraham, people can point out his supposed flaws all they want, it is possible that he is a great fighter in the making.'

Well everyones slagging of Froch. But he ain't lost yet!

Again I believe the Dirrell fight was close. But I wouldn't call it a gift decision and certainly not a robbery as a lot of people have.

Chad Dawson has proved he is one of the best fighters in the world and would be a heavy favorite against any fighter from 168 to cruiser. Abraham hasnt accomplished as much against the fighters on the level Dawson has beaten. Dawson has a dominating win over Adamek. Abraham has a close decision over Miranda, a convincing KO over Miranda and a KO over Jermain Taylor. I wouldnt equal that to Dawsons win over the ring champion at cruiser along with Tarver and Johnson X4

I'd say that's linking age to quality, which would be accurate in most cases- but not this one. I've also noticed that argument comes up as regularly as clockwork when it comes to giving credit to whoever beats Hopkins, but that's another post for another day.

My point here is Adamek was one of the best Light Heavyweights out there. Hopkins was the best Middleweight out there and had the hardware to prove it. It should have been a tougher fight for Jermain than Adamek was for Dawson.

So Taylor wasn't the Second Coming and the Savior of the sport? Seriously...so what?

He fought high quality opposition from the time he faced Hopkins to the present, and by and large acquitted himself quite well against any opponent that he faced, even if he didn't defeat them. I'm more inclined to regard a fighter like that pretty highly than a so-called champion who feasts upon little-known alphabet mandatories throughout the course of a similar reign.

Taylor is a decent fighter with excellent skills but without self-confidence and often without the right game plan. Just have a look at his opposition. There's nobody in SMW who has fought such a tough opposition.

funny how you say Calzaghe is elite and berate and underrate every single one of Taylors accomplishments
