what do you mean by overrated and overhyped? did hbo overhype him? yes. was he the most overrated by boxing fans like those on here? no. i've been a member here since before his fights with hopkins. when he got those close decisions i don't recall a majority of people saying he's an atg or anything. the same goes in other boxing media. people saw him as probably "the man" at mw and would probably reign over the next few years. JT then proceeded to make a few defenses against the guys HBO pitted him against and then he got clocked during a good fight w/ pavlik. since then he has basically abandoned the mw division and had problems with some of the best smws out there. i just don't see how he was "the most overrated" at all. pavlik was probably a slightly better MW, but if JT managed to stay at MW he'd be the next best to this day. he moved up and has had more tough losses. so what?

he was never touted here or anywere else (outside of hbo) like fmj, rjj, calzaghe, and pac for instance. given what FMJ has actually done over the past couple of years you could argue that fmj is currently more overrated than taylor ever was since there's a whole contingency here that think fmj is nearly the best to ever lace em up

You comparing Floyd Mayweathers resume to Jermain Taylors. Floyd has been the undisputed champion in 4 weight classes, won a belt in 5. Beaten 13 world champions and atleast 5-6 hofers. Kill yourself.

no i'm not comparing their resumes ******. i'm saying that because many believe fmj is a top 10 atg (or there abouts) he is arguably more overrated than taylor who IMO was never really overrated, just seen as a good MW by most which he was and could still good be. Just let me know if you have some more comprehension problems

I thought he beat Hopkins, but that Hopkins was still the better fighter. Sometimes the better fighter loses due to style. I thought he handled Spinks easy but i did raise a flag when he couldn't get Ouma out and then gassed.

whatever. top 10, top 40 what's the difference. there have been a lot of posters touting him as a boxing god when that resume has some holes in it. the point is that taylor wasn't over hyped and you can make the case that a fighter like FMJ is more overhyped. **** off if you don't get it

Cmon Taylor wasnt as bad as you think...he was a solid middleweight who has some stamina problem and lapses in concentration...at his best he's real good

Former undisputed MW champion as a result of receiving TWO bogus GIFT DECISIONS over Bernard Hopkins. That Hopkins - and Winky Wright - got SCREWED by the HBO hype machine is nothing worse than a SCANDAL that boxing fans should be pissed above. ATG fighters deprived of their rightful victories to build up the record of the latest HBO golden boy. Disgusting.

Talented guy who fought the best consistently and gave trouble to everyone he entered the ring with.

He had skill. He beat a bunch of decent 154 fighters at 160.
