Taylor didn't measure up to expectations/hype/potential (whatever word you care to use) but to use a word like "average" is simply off-base. "Lucky twice" against a fighter as good as BHop is a huge stretch; throw in close fight with an excellent 160 Winky (who ran from the rematch, not Taylor) and the fact that in none of his losses was he ever demolished... that's a very good fighter.

Not the next BHop, but not someone to sneer at.

To answer the question: Judah was most overrated/overhyped before stepping up his competition level.

I think Taylor had confidence issues- seems like a nice bloke; maybe thats partly why.

    A-???

B, maybe B+ at best. The guy made a career off 2 RAZOR THIN decisons off Hopkins. I had him winning both fights narrowly. If Hopkins wasn't so economical in both fights, he wins both.

Taylor is garbage. Now. Wright should have gotten the nod over him too.

Apparently Wright didn't share your sentiment. Otherwise he'd have accepted the rematch. Wright has no ground to stand on with which to complain. He didn't do enough to get himself any sort of definitive win, and declined the chance to prove he was the better man in a rematch. Act the fact that I feel Soliman beat him prior to that, and I definitely don't feel Wright got the shaft on this one.

Agreed! I wonder what Kessler's record would have been had he stepped up the same way? The dude is just penalized because he had balls.

No one ever disputed Taylor's balls... only his quality as a fighter.

Taylor wasn't "lucky" - he had HBO behind him. That, and Hopkins' unpopularity with the boxing establishment, was all he needed to get his gifts. Seriously, you take away those disputed "victories" over Hopkins and his gift draw against Wright, and who did he beat? What top caliber opposition at HIS OWN WEIGHT did Taylor clearly defeat?

    Nobody. And that's the problem.

i havent seen a post that taylor is an atg. i havent seen a post that taylor is a sure shot hof'er. no one is claiming that. but he is a good fighter. so i ask...what the **** is wrong with you that you would actually agree with a thread which is premised on taylor being the most overrated overhyped fighter of the past decade. how many other fighters have manned up and traded leather with the level of competition taylor has?

of the past decade?? ok how bout this

    * who the **** has hatton beat other than zoo when he was given free reign by a hometown judge. he gets in the ring w/ top shelf fighers and gets sparked.

    * since 1999 oscar has lost to trinadad, mosely, mosely, hopkins, mayweather and pac. he has beat vargas and mayorga. is that better than beating hopkins twice??

    * joe beat lacy (big ****ing deal right??) kessler (SOG) and two aarp recipients.

most overrated overhyped fighter of the past decade is a terrible description of taylor. he is class and will fight anyone. he is good but not atg. but then again no one is saying he is

Judah is more overhyped for having not beaten anybody of note except Spinks...
