Taylor plans to give up title!
WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor's proposed September 29 clash with Kelly Pavlik at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, will apparently be his last as middleweight champion. Taylor's hometown newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, reported on Sunday that a decision has been made by Team Taylor to move to super middleweight after that fight.

So Kessler and Calzague might unified..., Berrio will lose is next fight... so Taylor vs Bute anyone ?

IMO, it is not a wise decision because he is going to lose his main advantage he enjoyed among the MW, his size. I do not see him beating any of the current SMW belt holders either.

I think Pavlik beats Taylor by stoppage, and Jermain cites the weight issue as the reason.

If Taylor can't make 160 anymore, he should let Pavlik and Abraham have the opportunity to find the new champ.

    Agreed.

Taylor would enter fights with Kessler and Calzaghe as the underdog.

    I think he'd take Mundine.

I live in Little Rock and the newspaper also says he is going to fight pavlik nomatter what... ozell nelson his trainer does not want him fighting at 160 cause he had to lose 9 pounds in 3 days before spinks fight.... But he is not listening and is going to fight pavlik.... That is a champion.

    What a wonderful pre-emptive excuse.

Has DiBella been spending time at ESB or something?

there was talk about this before.

With his height it is logical that he can't stay at 160 forever.
Same for a guy like Paul Williams, or Tommy hearns before

Taylor is, imo, highly overrated, but I have to admit his competition/resume at middleweight, if it does indeed end up including 30-0 Pavlik, will be considered very solid.

At 168 Taylor's size advantage goes out the window, and his numerous technical flaws will be exposed by Calzaghe or Kessler.
