I try not to read into predictions too much. Before the Calzaghe v Lacy fight another well known boxing website did there pre fight predictions,Lacy was an overwhelming favourite with 12 of the 16 contributors, some people i considered very knowledgeable even went as far a to say they didn't think Joe would last into the second half of the fight ! We all know just how good Taylor can be,whilst Froch is still unknown at this level.I'm still not showing my hand, theres too many realistic scenarios that could happen for me.Lets hope its a good fight.

For what it's worth, here's Barry McGuigan's views:

"Fortune favours the brave. Tonight's bout against Jermain Taylor tells us everything about the courage and ambition of Carl Froch.

In his first defence Britain's only world champion is putting his WBC supermiddleweight title on the line against an ex-champ in his prime and on his home patch.

I know Taylor has fought just once at the weight but he has been in with the best at middleweight and beaten Bernard Hopkins twice.

It is clear that Taylor doesn't rate Froch.

He will have seen the barnstormer against Jean Pascal and placed that alongside a record that is hardly an inventory of great opponents.

The superiority complex borne by American boxers will be telling him this will be a short night against another overrated Brit.

That impression won't survive the first round. Froch is unorthodox. He keeps those hands annoyingly low. But he can fight.

He was the first Briton to win a medal - bronze - at the amateur world championships.

He has an iron chin and hits seriously hard.

The bout with Pascal was the fight of last year. In it he demonstrated the qualities you need as a champion - resilience, heart and power.

Taylor (left) is a slick, well-schooled boxer, but he is not the most aggressive fighter that ever drew breath. He does just enough.

Whenever I close my eyes and think of every Taylor fight that I have seen my mind conjures the same image, Taylor on the ropes, backed up by the aggressor, firing combinations.

He will get all of that and more from Froch, who showed against Pascal his appetite for hard work and for the fight.

Taylor revealed against Kelly Pavlik a reluctance to get after an opponent who likes to apply pressure behind a big dig, losing twice.

I imagine Taylor believes he can win this fight by finessing his way past an open defence and then getting out of harm's way when the charge comes.

Froch is more than a banger.

He is an intelligent fighter with a deep hunger, who fights at a ferocious pace.

    That makes him dangerous.

Desire is taking Froch into the heart of America when lesser beings would be taking the easier option at home. He wants to make up for lost time.

This is his opportunity to finally step from the shadow of Joe Calzaghe and make a name for himself.

The fact that no broadcaster was prepared to shell out for the live rights tells you how far he has to travel to match the likes of Ricky Hatton, who stars in a sell-out pay-perview extravaganza in Las Vegas next week.

Froch is at Foxwoods in Connecticut, very much a regional theatre compared with the boxing Broadway graced by Hatton and Manny Pacquiao.

British television has not abandoned him, however. I shall be talking the ITV audience through what I believe will be a landmark victory for the Nottingham man in a show delayed by 24 hours.

Froch will take some shots early on no doubt. Taylor may even hurt him. But not more than Pascal did.

He knows he can't allow Taylor's slick approach to dominate. I believe Froch will eventually take control of this fight down the stretch, maybe even win by late KO."

I think Froch was taken aback by Pascal fighting him at such close quarters in their fight. He thought Pascal was going to be on the run and he would have to stalk and close the ring off.

In my opinion this contributed to what was a pretty sloppy, ragged performance from Froch. He got engaged early doors and never really recaptured his composure, even if he did start using the jab when the hectic pace died down late on.

Taylor won't come at him tonight like Pascal did. He'll jab, throw right hands, and retreat or go sideways in usual predictable fashion. This will give Froch time and room to breathe and think and he'll slowly start to time Taylor and throw those loping, heavy handed shots just when Taylor does that subliminal pause before every jab, a pause that gets more laboured and sloppy the longer the fight goes.

I gradually see Taylor getting dragged into a fight when his jab tactics lose their sheen, and this is when Froch will start picking up the rounds and maybe even get Taylor out of there. Because in these brawls scenarios Taylor's naivety and lack of ring smarts will show itself. He'll always retreat with his hand low, and give Froch the time and space to unleash his artlillery.

It wouldn't surprise me if Froch found the shot just after a semi-clinch(Taylor doesn't do clinches generally), when Taylor switches off.

I see Froch winning this either on a UD or a late stoppage.

hmm i dont think froch will ko taylor, i reckon he will be alot more cautious, on the other hand taylor is quicker with his hands and probably better defensively. froch hardly rattled pascal with his BOMBS his power is a little over rated. something tells me froch will try go for the early KO and it may backfire on him, like taylor-pavlik first fight.

    Taylor by wide decision

I can't see Froch getting knocked out. But he allows himself to get hit to much and this will give Taylor an easy nights work.

    I hope i'm wrong.

No chance, it broke JT mentally.

He will always have a mental scar from getting brutally KOed like that.

    Froch by close UD.
Taylor will be looking to box, and Froch isn't the busiest fighter in the world, so I'm not feeling a knockout here.

So generally speaking, actual method aside, the ESB feeling is about 60-37 in Taylor's favour, with 3% undecided.

We'll find out in a few hours!
