I don't think i've ever seen a poll about this fight nor do i see people talking about this matchup. It's pretty intriguing. So what do you think at 168?
Dawson should take it easily. He's taller and longer, which can't be underestimated with two guys that build off the jab. So I see Dawson outjabbing him, and forcing Taylor to move forward which he is uncomfortable doing. He does his best work at mid-range, and he'll struggle to get past Dawson's jab and quick hands to get there.
Dawson wins a close UD. Mark that down to Taylor's stamina. Taylor is more accurate than Dawson and just as fast and powerful. Dawson has better reach and stamina. In a 12 round fight, Dawson beats him imo
****in Jermaine Taylor had trouble with Corey Spinks. Now Chad is also a lefty. He's bigger, he's stronger, and he's overall better than Spinks. I'll take Bad Chad over Bad Intentions.
Dude, you overhype Dawson in the other thread yet you don't know anything about him? :nut Dawson could easily make 168. That's actually his ideal weight. He comes into weigh ins weighing around 172.
The only area where you can compare the two is natural athleticism. In terms of class this is a horrendous mismatch. :yep
I don't see how anyone is picking Taylor. The people that are picking Taylor by KO should be ashamed to call themselves a fan of the sport. When the hell is the last time Taylor stopped someone? I believe 3 years ago if I'm not mistaken. Hell, Taylor was put in the ring with 3 straight JMW's and still couldn't get a stoppage. Yet despite this he's going to go up to 168 and stop Dawson?:nut
Dawson by wide UD. Taylor has good hand speed, but he rarely uses it, and his workrate is pretty disappointing. In Taylors defense he is more experienced concerning top fights. Dawson still makes youthful mistakes. Taylor has lived long on fighting smaller guys and has lost quite a few fights. I don't even think he will do very well at SMW. Lesser guys than Dawson at SMW will beat him as well, ie Andrade and Bute.
Taylor was raw and didn't really put together his talents the right way up until his last fight with Pavlik. Maybe he needed to get KOed to wake up. If you are a Taylor pessimist, you will always point to his Ouma and Spinks fights. If you are a Taylor optimist, you will point to his competitive fights with Hopkins, Wright, and Pavlik 2. I tend to look at the positives of Taylor. I still think the best is yet to come. You say he couldn't take out former JMW's. And i say look at his most recent fights with Pavlik where he hurt Pavlik in the first one and fought a competitive fight with him in the 2nd. That Taylor can do a lot of good things. And i did vote for JT by KO. I either see this fight as being a Dawson UD or JT catches Dawson and takes him out. But me being a JT fan, i voted for the KO. :good
I'll give you a pass then. In general, I think you're a good poster. I'm going to tell you straight up, I'm not a Taylor hater. However, when I see little ass Ouma backing him up, no way can I pick him to go up in weight and beat someone on the level of Dawson. I definately wouldn't pick him to win via stoppage. Taylor has already admitted that he has trouble with lefites. If he thought Spinks and Ouma were tricky, he would be in all sorts of trouble against Dawson.
Well, i attribute that to JT being "dumb"? Maybe that's a bit harsh but it's no secret he's a very simple minded fellow. I mean it's not that he COULDN'T hurt Ouma or Spinks, it's just that he didn't really give a good effort. There is a difference. I mean if you've watched either fight, you just knew that if JT just stepped on the gas and let his hands go, he could take them out, especially in the Spinks fight. Spinks had no power to hurt him so JT had nothing to fear. But again, we come back to the "dumb" factor. He just goes into a funk when the other fighter isn't coming forward. He only seems to get into a fight if the guy in front of him is coming forward. As Steward would say, JT is an instinctive fighter in that he just does what's natural. He sometimes forgets to use his brains. So that's why i try not to look so hard at his fights with Ouma and Spinks. It's not that he couldn't take them out. It's just that he didn't try to take them out. So it was a mental error. A mistake nonetheless but a correctable one. It's one thing if he threw haymakers against these guys and still couldn't hurt them.
