I m not sure if I am beating a dead horse or not but can someone with more technical or real Boxing experience than myself explain to me about Jermain Taylors obvious technical flaws in the ring. I happen to like JT but I rewatched Taylor Vs. Pavlik and I noticed Jermain making lots of what id say were rookie mistakes I mean JT was an Olympic Bronze medalist and everything else and was under the tutelage of Emmanuel Steward (Btw what went wrong between ES and JT they just did not work well together or is ES just not that good a trainer as I thought?) In the fight with Pavlik I noticed Jermain was doing things like backing straight up with his hands down which he had done in previous fights (Maybe just a bad habit of his) I also saw that jermain would rotate to his left and would end up in range of Pavliks Right hand power punch why would he do this at that level of Boxing I mean was it some special tactic that him and ES developed that just didnt play out in the ring or what, any Thoughts?
In Taylors case, it could be what made him successful is what ultimately ruined him. A big, strong ,athletic, hard punching middleweight, Jermaine achieved with his natural talents, ignoring , to a point, more technical skills that would have held him in good stead against Pavlick. While winning, he developed bad habits, backing straight up, keeping his hands down. He basically outhustled Hopkins and Wright, but against an aggressive , young, power punching middleweight who DID master the basics , Jermain got lost. In the rematch, one has to wonder if he can correct his mistakes. He'd better or Kelly will starch him again.
Pavlik wins the rematch:yep Pavlik was out jabbing JT in the first fight, and JT was eating those straight right hands like candy:dead Pavlik wins by late 9-12 KO OR comfortable margin decision..
I like what True Believer has to say and I'd like to add one more important item: Pavlik took Taylor's best shots and laughed, Taylor took Kelly's bombs and was in never never land. Pavlik wins the rematch, KO6.
the thing is though. people act like jermain was getting blown out of the water by pavlik up to the 7th..i had it an even fight... however by the 6 i felt as though the momentum was starting to shift more in pavliks favor via the 7th. the rematch should be a great fight
I was lucky enough to be there in A.C. that night and to later be able to watch the fight on tv/dvd. While watching live at the Boardwalk Hall, I had it 4-2 for Taylor. Then, after watching the fight on tv, it was more even, but what I could see was the power behind Pavlik's jab and right hand. Taylor's head was snapping back alot and he was being worn out from it. This wasn't completely evident being there live. I see the rematch going Taylor's way for the first couple rounds, but it will rapidly swing towards Pavlik's pressure and heavy hands. If it comes down to the last line of defense, Pavlik takes a better punch.
kelly the unit pavlik late round stoppage . no more needs to be said , he just has jt's number and thats that
Taylor knocks Pavlik out in the rematch, just like he did in round 2 of their first match. But Smoger had to support "his kind". You know what they say, the whiter the cow, the sweeter the milk...
Check out Pavlik's corner between rounds 2 and 3. Kelly, while smiling, says "it was a good shot". It was funny ****. Taylor didn't react like that, he was confused. Kelly is a BEAST.
Thats a pretty ******ed comment. With an attitude like that, you are a part of the problem. You were probably one of the racist *******s at the fight that I had to listen to.
taylor does have skills but he does have flaws. major flaws as i see them, he fights straight ahead and straight back/his defense is his offense/even when in against non punchers at his level like winky and ouma and he allows himself to be backed up to the ropes and teed off on/ he simply has not learnt the art off ducking or slipping the incoming shot , step off to the side and making his opponent reset. the reason he has these flaws IMO is because on the way up and even when he was champ he faced welterweight after light middle after welterweight and very very few fighters his own size , so being bigger/longer and taller he was in his comfort zone hardly having to worry what was incoming. got away with it v bernard simply because bernard threw 8 punches a round , and bernard lost because of what he did not do, rather than what taylor did. another factor is taylor`s midset and will to win, taylor is not prepared to do anything and everything to get the win IMO and is not in love with the game , but see`s it more off an occupation than a love. technically his left jab/hook/right cross/ are all solid.
Different name...same stupidity. And **** YOU with that racist horse****. Smoger is a damn good ref., & I'm sure making sure the white boy won was the furthest thing from his mind. :finger
what happened before he got to the corner between rounds 2 and 3? answer: he was lucky to survive. now i think pavlik is the favorite when these two fight, and i like pavlik better than taylor, but pavlik by no means laughed off taylors shots in the second round. i was in vegas when this fight was on, and trust me, nobody that had money on pavlik (me included) was laughing during that second round. only difference between pavliks second round and taylors seventh round is pavlik finished the job. both guys got stunned.
