a little while back there was a thread that asked if there was anyone out there that had backed pavlikin the first fight and was know picking jermain in the second fight. I might hesitently put my name under that category. I will not be suprised if either man wins this fight. To say that Pavlik will destroy Jermain is to over look the fact that Jermain certainly had a good chance to win in there last fight.
Well, Taylor didn't "back himself into the corner". He had a 6'2+" long armed power puncher doing that to him. At the end Taylor stumbled into the corner almost for support after getting hit with two flush right hand bombs. Pavlik on the other hand was initially hurt by a Taylor right to his temple area. Then a little while later Kelly did in fact jut his face out at Taylor and got caught with a combo. Pavlik can easily not do that again. Taylor on the other hand is going to have a tough time getting aways from Pavlik's relentless straight punches. What can he do? Stand and fight, he'll get hurt and tired. Move back and Kelly follows him to the ropes. Run around like Sugar Ray Leonard? He can't. Taylor's trapped and doomed. He's in for another bad beating.
I should have been more precise: When Pavlik dropped his hands and stuck his tongue out, he did that purely on his own initiative, nothing Taylor did confused him to do this. It is obviously something that he can control will never do again after this experience. When Taylor backed up into the corner, it was a reflex reaction to Pavlik's double jab and coming forward. It is something Taylor tends to do when he gets hit, not a one - time mistake. Pavlik's mistake was a fluke, Taylor's mistake was an ingrained habit of someone who loses his composure when he is in trouble. Big difference.
Miguel Cotto is the epitome of boxing (coming from a non cotto fan). When you admit on national television that your only motivation in boxing is the money, you cease to be the epitome of what is right about boxing.
First off I really like both fighters, but Pavlik has been my fave for a couple years now. I was literally almost ill leading up to the fight and as a matter of fact didn't even go to work on the preceding Friday. Now at first I didn't see the "cute" thing either (other than Pavlik sticking his tongue out etc.. at first), until I went back and watched for it. Taylor started the BOMBING with a wicked overhand/straight right that caught the button on Pavlik. Then Pav was getting dazed and Taylor was unloading, but about 4-5 punches later Taylor DOES INDEED throw a left elbow up the side of Pav's head and at that point Pavlik DOES (foolishly) drop his hands as if to give JT a look like WTF was that? Only problem was Taylor was still in the process of unloading and unload he did. Nothing was cute about the right hand that started it though, wicked shot by Taylor. KP KO7 once again.:deal
That ass whooping was just what JT needed to get him back on the right track. JT wins this one. He's focused Man!!!!
Both men are training longer & harder for the rematch. Now that KP is Champion, his game should go to the next level. Taylor is acting confident & determined. But its human nature to have some selfdoubt after a brutal KO & this could work against him. I'm concerned for Kelly like I was in the first fight, but I'm confident he'll manage to get the job done again. No clowning this time... Pavlik stops him again. Maybe sooner.
Maybe Im going to have to sit down with one of you guys so that you can show me what you are seeing.. I see Taylor landing a big overhand right and than following up with a series of rights and lefts.. Anybody got a video with a better angle so that I can see what you guys are talking about?
Lil, JT landed a solid right, that hurt pavlik, but that's not what took him down. JT obviously knew he hurt him and started throwing hooks, some landed, some didn't. Then he threw an elbow, clearly threw an elbow. Kelly dropped his hands, to give the impression he wasn't hurt and JT was throwing at the same time. He hit him with a good left. Kelly went down. He got up by 2. End of story. Literally, I've watched this fight more than 10 X's.
I watched the KO many times and IMO: Pav. first nailed Taylor with a big right in the middle of the ring and that made Taylor's head go fuzzy and he then went on autopilot, combined with the momentum of the punch went back into the middle of the ropes. If he had made a mistake that was it, but I think he was allready in trouble from that right hand. The next punch or two in the middle of the ropes had him in too much trouble to do anything and he stumbled/was punched into the corner but he was allready pretty much done. Sticking his tongue out or not, Pavlik got nailed by a monster combo and I still get surprised watching replay to see him get up from that. The dude really scraped himself the canvas like a freakin Zombie. Should be a hell of a fight :bbb , but I would be surprised and impressed if Taylor wins. He has a lot of chinks in his armour to correct, especially for a guy 28-29 years old. He has mediocre technique, is not a great thinker in the ring when under pressure, he was KTFO allready, and he has stamina issues that must have been addressed before fight #1, as he gassed against Hopkins. To think he did not work on his conditioning after Hopkins is a bit far featched. :deal
