Manny Steward, and I think Lennox Lewis as well, said that Jermain has the musculature for endurance. :huh

To me, it seems he has the West African musculature of Olympic sprinters. His actions in the ring are consistent with this, since he doesn't have great stamina but has fast hand speed and explosive punches.

Am I wrong (and Manny Steward correct) or was Steward just trying to make Pavlik's camp worry about Jermain's endurance?

That would indicate he's got a **** load of tybe 2b fibres which is all about power. Endurance fibres are tybe 1. Either way, he got KTFO!!

Well, fast twitch muscles don't necessarily mean power. Power can come from a wide variety of things, and has just as much to do with technique and wide shoulders. Also, he does have above average power.

Very true. Hamed and Jones are perfect examples of this. How many times have they KO'ed or knocked down an opponent with punches coming out of the oddest angles!!

He has always seemed to explode in quick bursts, then take short breathers. I agree his power is definitely above average, IMO.

Thanks for the info, which confirms my beliefs :deal

You can argue that 400m is the top end distance. I think Michael Johnson had fast twitch muscles, and he holds the 400m world record. But then again, the best current 400m runner, who is coming close to beating Johnson's record, is white skinny kid and definitely does not have a fast twitch musculature.

My last post wasn't clear. I meant, you are right in that 400m is the top end distance for fast twitch sprinters, but it is also the distance at which non fast twitch become competetive.

Bull****. Jeremy Wariner is a monster in the 200m dash too, and just because he's white and not built like a Mack truck doesn't mean he lacks fast-twitch musculature. He's got more fast-twitch musculature than any one of us could ever dream of...if he had anything less than optimal muscle fibers then he wouldn't be a world-class sprinter.

You're underrating his muscle mass, anyways :good On the USAT&F page he's listed at 6'0 and 155lbs...not heavy, mind you...but Asafa Powell (100m world record holder) is 6'3 and ~195lbs, and he's pretty "jacked" for a professional sprinter.

What kind of bull**** is this?! Do you think we would discuss the subject if he(Taylor) were white?

The guy lost - West African or North Polian - live with it!

    :think
I always thought he was just mediocre at 200m. Also, part of his success at 400m is because he can sprint the ENTIRE way, and he doesn't even seem that winded after. And I can't be underrating his muscle mass too much, since he is 6'0 and 155 pounds. Any ways, this is getting quite off topic :smooch

How is an observation that someone has fast twitch musculature, despite people claiming otherwise, bull****? I'm not claiming that he lost because of his heritage.

Alright, alright, I admit it. I was fooled by his thin build. :|
