Some fighters have that mental strenghth toughness and some dont......its is'nt anything that can be taught. Taylor is'nt lacking in skill, he afterall did best Hopkins twice....... Every fighter who exherts energy fatigues at one point or another during the long haul of a fight......but its how you chanell your mental energy, and harness yourself mentally for another wind, is what seperates great from fighters who just fall short of that. .......I have yet to see the full fight, as I was surf channeling between the fight and the Laker-Utah game......but even in channel surfing, you could see Taylor just reduce his workrate drastically and giving Froch the opportunities he did'nt have earlier. ......even when Taylor dropped Froch early, he likely was thinking back to the time that he did the same vs Pavlik and punched himself out...... he was so worried that he'd punch himself out, that it effected how he went about trying to finish Froch. Its a mental thing with Taylor now, and I'm not sure that something like that can be fixed, especially a fighter like Taylor who just hit 30 years old. Its not all about skill gentlemen......the ability to exhert yourself and keep functioning when you're gasping for wind can be just as if not more important than skill itself. I'll say one thing on Taylor's behalf.......he fought back when Froch hurt him during that 11th round and on to the 12th......which is alot more than I can say of fighters who simply give up the fight. Imo is a mental thing with his conditioning now..... Taylor is certainly not lacking in heart, and for that I commend him!:thumbsup
Agreed. I found the underlined parts particularly frustrating. I mean 15 seconds to go right, TAKE A GOT DAMN KNEE!!!! JEEEZUS! Ref gives a 10 count, he clears head a little, and go to the damned cards. Credit to Froch for distance control and finishing skills in that last few seconds though.:yep
I wonder if Jermain really knows what it is to train hard? Jim Tressel used to coach in Youngstown, so when he went to Ohio State, I used to read most of the articles about him. One stands out in my mind. I guess the coaches do the same drills as the athletes during summer drills. I remember one play saying how awesome it was to have the coaches standing there puking with them. I've read Kelly Pavlik saying that he sits in his car dreading going into his workout some days because he knows what he is in for. Is Jermain too tense in the ring burning energy he shouldn't? All speculation of course.
Not sure how intense his workouts been but I have heard that JT had cut conrners in the past ..But again it may be his trainers it could be him but someone is not getting the most out of Taylor ..Roach is the guy that could help him like he did with Manny ..
If Jermain chooses to continue boxing, he needs someone besides Ozell Nelson in his corner. I am no freaking body in the world of boxing, but if Jermain had followed the fight plan I laid out right here on ESB, we would now be talking about how badly he schooled Froch. If I could see the clearest path to victory, how come Nelson couldn't? Roach might be a good fit.
He has already tried to employ a smart trainer to try and add new wrinkles to his gameplan...Manny Steward. He is an instinctive fighter...like Tyson once said, "every fighter has a gameplan until they get hit." A more offensive type of trainer would really help Taylor at this point in his career. The only variable I can see that is truly missing from his game is his inability to close out tough fighters. He should hire either Joe Goosen or Freddie Roach. Both guys are masters at teaching proven fighters new tactics.
I beleive Roach will teach Taylor how to not over extend himself same as W/Manny ..In a perfect world that would be the best fit but who Knows what's next for Bad Intentions ..He may keep Ozell ..For his sake he better hire someone else.. Can't see him getting more chances after another loss like this ..Nazim for as good as he is does he have the patience to put up with Taylor Manny Stewart couldn't can NAZIM ?
