If anything, the talking point coming out of how close Taylor vs. Spinks was should be giving Cory some praise (which nobody likes to do). Instead people exaggerate it as a way to denigrate Taylor, saying he got a gift over a welterweight.

No. HBO hyped him beyond his actual abilities, but there was some substance underneath the hype. He was a legitimate top middleweight in his day, and depending on how you scored either Hopkins bout at one time was the rightful lineal monarch at MW.

 

Lol...haters gonna hate. You can't give away 7 rounds of a fight and win a decision without a Knockdown or knockout (or penalty). That's really all that needs to be said in reference to the Hopkins fights...Winky choose to give away the 12th round of their fight, the Spinks fight was close and props to Corey in a fight he lost.

Taylor also deserves props for his showing in the 2nd Pavlik fight , a lot closer fight than most people seem to recall. muther****ers were looking for reasons to not give jermain rounds.

I think people just carried preconceived notions into it because of how the first one ended, so it probably seemed like Pavlik was dominating due to coming forward most of the time when in fact a lot of his jabs (and most of the rights he threw) were getting blocked or eluded with side-bobs and he was getting pecked up during his breaks.

 

Taylor was hyped by HBO a lot, but keep in mind that he's fought 10 times since the first Hopkins fight and every single one of them, maybe with the exception of Lacy, has been against a top fighter. He gasses and gets knocked out, but he's always been competitive.

 

I thought he won the first hopkins fight and lost the second and lost to winky.

The first hops fight, Hopkins dominated him rounds 8 to 12 but thats still only 4 rounds. I thought hopkins just started too late and had taylor ahead with enough rounds.

The winky fight everyone bitched about the 12th saying winky gave away "the championship round" first off the 12th is worth 10 points like any other round. Second, I had winky winning the round because while winky was less active that round than the others, taylor was even less active than winky and winky chased him around. People saying winky didnt do anything but taylor did **** all that round too.

 

Both the Hopkins 1s were close. Wright won close. Never saw Spinks, Taylor was dominating KP and Carl Froch before tko'd imo.
