Perhaps. It was closely contested, but I feel pretty good about awarding it to Charlo.

Lol no that's not what was happening. A lot of punches from both landed in air or made contact with gloves. The cleaner punching 100% came from D, watch the exchanges carefully and in slow motion if you're finding it hard to see what landed...Charlo did land a few quality jabs tho.. It was 100% a close round but there are more reasons to score it for D than Charlo

Regardless, I think my overall issue is with those who think it was a clear W for Charlo.
I thought that it was a really close fight and I can see it 7-5 for Charlo. But anything more than that I have strong issues with.

Btw, I am loving that barely anyone cared about that BS 118-112 card. Who the **** can say that it was a good card?
Reminds me of Mares-Moreno. It was a really close fight and Moreno most definitely got ****ed over by the BS KD call and point deduction.
Yet the judges had it 116-112 x2 and one judge had it 120-106. A fight that Moreno arguably won, and most definitely was competitive in, one judge gave him absolutely nothing. Not a single round.

There weren't many exchanges in the first round. That alone might have been enough to tip it to Charlo since the quiet, tactical pace favored him at the start. Anyway, Charlo wasn't super accurate with the jab (about 25 percent), but he landed at least a handful that were clean and limited SD's output. Derevyanchenko landed a couple of nice right hands, but only threw about 20 punches in total and the right hands weren't any more damaging than Charlo's jab.

Quantity vs Quality affair, but there was a greater margin in terms of quantity than there was in terms of quality. It's close, but I suspect that even if I slow it down and go frame by frame- while hanging upside down and doing magic tricks-I'll probably still score it to Charlo on a re-watch.

My impression of it was that you could get to a draw depending on what you were looking for, but the dynamic of the fight generally favored Charlo from round to round. 116-112 was my card, give (maybe a couple) or take (maybe one more for JC). 118-110 seemed harsh, yeah. Not completely out of the question...But definitely giving Charlo every benefit of the doubt.

I did the RBR for Mares-Moreno that night, and called it a draw. I remember thinking the KD was legit but the point deduction was inexplicable. Was a fun fight...Pity they never ran it back.

Again, no. Yes there were minimal exchanges as I've noted prior but if we are talking quality and quantity this came from D in this round and scoring it for Charlo is just plain illogical.

Boxing is subjective I get it but I don't quite understand what your observing . If you actually what the exchanges carefully, and sometimes watch in slow speed (which I have no idea why you're mocking? ), Charlo lands one fairly clean jab to the face and 1-2 jabs (1 light, 1 fairly strong) to the body. The rest literally do not land or land or the gloves. Deryvachenko lands two fairly clean right hands, a left hook (this one is hard to see if it was hit on the gloves) a clean jab and hook to the body. Deryvachenko work was objectively cleaner.

The fact that there weren't many exchanges isn't any reason to give the round to Charlo given what all he did was stalk him and prevent D from landing, despite taking more cleaner shots. Ring generalship is clearly a factor in judges scoring, but when the guy stalking is hit more cleanly then he is clearly not the ring "General". Watch the round again

Sounds like a close fight. I missed it because of the UFC. Not PPVing that. I'll watch and provide a real scorecard but based on what I've read and certain people's propensity to exaggerate, I believe a draw or 115-113 Charlo sound close.
