Rather decisively...and if the vid ever became availab le it would greatly enhance Quarry's standing.
I was told that it was not in the MSG archive. That MSG didnt film the fights from this era but paid a film lab in New York to tape them on 2 inch quad tapes. This was extremely expensive stock. This lab stored these tapes but would often recycle them meaning many many fights from this era were lost. More were lost than were preserved. Nobody outside of MSG knew of this lab (meaning it was unlikely someone was able to acquire this fight on their own) and very few people had the equipment necessary to even watch 2" quad, certainly not your average joe on the street (meaning acquiring a copy would have been pointless). Thus, in all probability the fight was destroyed and those who said they had it were full of ****. Probably.
Interesting stuff.. I never knew that.. I find it shameful that this "lab" destroyed what may have been a lot of good fights.
I don't believe Antoine has the Quarry-Mathis fight. He claims he has fights he doesn't have. He supposedly spent $3,000. for the Jones-Rademacher fight. I got that fight on a trade. I won't do business with Antoine. It him two months to send me a boxing tape. He got mad at me because I told another collector that he had the Holmes-Roy Williams fight.
antoine lafleur does not have it/ bs/.........i spoke to buster mathis jr....he says it does not exist:huh
antoine lafluer does not have holmes/roy williams..........BS.....but i do kmow who has it but wont let go of it:admin
I never said LaFleur has it or the Williams fight. In fact, after much research, Im about 98 percent sure that Quarry-Mathis does not exist.
LaFleur is full of bull**** i go along with your point about MSG and the 2in quad tapes. a very good friend of mine who was best friends with James Quarry most of his life told me the exact same think as you claim and i believe him to be correct. James Quarry swapped some gloves, rob and other memorabilia of Jerry's with Bill Cayton just after Jerry's funeral and Cayton told James about the MSG 2ins tapes and how the Mathis fight does not exist.
Anyone interested in Antoines collection, I have since got all access to his massive collection! He is not doing well these days and for the most part turned all of his collection over to me. I have reopened his website Thfightdoctor.net. I agree that he Antoine is full of BS most of the time, but make know mistake his collection is tremendous and there is not a better copy of any fight out there if I say that whatever fight someone is inquiring about is mint. Come check out his former website if anyone is interested in acquiring the best footage available of some very rare and classic fights...
i traded with Antoine many times and many of his best fights came from me. Quarry vs Mathis does not exist, neither of the families have ever seen the fight. The Quarry family got 98% of their footage of Jerry & Mike from/through me. It is my understanding that Quarry vs Mathis as well as many other fights from MSG and that period was filmed BUT they were recorded over. Mike Casey who has a website claims to have seen Quarry vs Mathis but i feel he is lying. The German TV channel which put out the weekly TV programme "Boxen" in the late 1980s early 90s is were all vintage fight-film footage is to be found. Any footage which has come into the public domain over the last 30yrs has come from Europe and not the USA.
Well, it's a vain hope, but I'd sure love it if the film resurfaces somewhere, sometime...maybe the Mathis clan had it and destroyed it due to how bad Buster got owned in that fight....destroying the evidence more or less.
Just checked out your site and sorry to tell you, "But you don't really have very much of interest".. Your Jerry Quarry collection is very poor and most of what you have can be bought in career sets on eBay.. If you or Antoine or anyone else had Quarry vs Mathis, you would have it emblazoned all over your website in an attempt to seduce the highest bidder.
Frankel if you dont mind me asking, as far as you know what full fights exist of these fighters: Nicolino Locche Gaspar Ortega Jake Lamotta Henry Hank Willie Pep Luis Federico Thompson
