Saw this recently when it popped up in my recommended. The doc is pretty good, but that statement is crazy, along with the guys in the video that think it could've happened. I think that Quarry would've been Marciano's whipping boy.

Quarry was an excellent fighter and had all the physical tools to be the Heavyweight Champion, but he wasn't disciplined outside the ring and was known for cutting corners in his training. My trainer knew Quarry very well and said Quarry was a waste of talent.

Here is a quote from Jim Murray, who was a sportswriter for the LA times comparing Marciano and Quarry.

Of Rocky Marciano, it used to be said, "He fights you three minutes of every round." Of Jerry Quarry, it was said, "He fights you three minutes of every fight."

He would beat Marciano…for a handful of rounds. I like Quarry short-term to have success, but I really, really cannot see any other outcome besides Marciano reeling him in over the long haul.

Prime Quarry of the late 1960’s has a better shot with the Foreman who butchered Frazier & Norton, but by the time Foreman came to prominence, Quarry was on the slide.

Quarry was very good, but he held no significant physical advantages over Marciano and Quarry loved to brawl.

Quarry will have early success and it will be a false sense of confidence but once Marciano gets cooking, he will throw 110 punches per round and Quarry will melt under that type of pressure, not to mention Marciano’s legendary overhand right which could end Quarry’s night at any point if it lands flush. Quarry will not survive more 9-10 rounds going toe to toe with Marciano.

    Marciano TKO 9 Quarry

People say Marciano would be too small for modern sized heavies and Quarry tends to get grouped with modern sized heavies. But Quarry was actually the size of the old time, pre 1970s heavies as he was 6'0 195-200 pounds in his prime. Basically the same size as Jersey Joe Walcott.

Too tough for his own good. Went to slugging during fights and took lots of punishment.
Couldn't KO Patterson which says a lot. Lost to Frazier. Would never be able to beat Ali which is no knock on him. Probably would stupidly have tried to slug. it out with Foreman.... and idea.

At 195, he wasn't big enough to bully Marciano. It would have been a real bloody affair and a fantastic brawl, but Marciano wins late, most likely on cuts.

Today he certainly would be a CW contender.

Does it? Patterson was only ever beaten inside the distance by Ali (back troubles & then his career last fight), Liston, & Johansson, a pair of all-time punchers - the former, an ATG. This was in a career spanning twenty years, many of which involved fighting a talented crop of youngsters at the tail end of his time.

Patterson got knocked down plenty, but his reputation of being easily KO’d seems to me to be based more on what ATG’s are expected to do to him in hypotheticals than it is on his actual career results.

    No doubt.
He survived Johansson twice, as well as Ellis (People forget how big of a puncher he was) and Bonavena.

My points were he only decisioned a former HW champ who had been ko'd by two other HW champs and Quarry was ko'd by two other HW champs so once he reached a certain level of opposition he didn't do as well as against B levels. So it's logical to assume he would have failed against any HW champ of the era, including Marciano.
    So

Yeah fair enough. Agreed Quarry wouldn’t beat Marciano in anything other than perhaps an 8-rounder.

Marciano win s in a bloody hard fight.
Quarry gives it all that he's got but just not enough.
Rocky, behind slightly on the cards stops him in ten rounds.
