Actually, the thing the sticks out to me about Quarry is that in or out of his peak, he almost always beat a well-ranked fighter.

I was great friends with Mike and i'm in Jerry's book "hard luck" I was raised 30 miles from Bakersfield, Jerry and Mike were born there. Also talk to their former middleweight brother in law Mike Nixon about everyday

A buddy of mine is a ex fighter named Bob Bozic .. Back in the early seventies Bob was a top sparring partner for Chuvalo .. he told me a story of how Quarry, Chuvalo and Boone Kirkman we're driving cross country together for some reason or other and that they went to some bar and some local yokels actually started **** with them .. he said believe it or not Chuvalo wanted got walk away but Gerry got hot and crushed a bunch of them on his own ..,

I mention 1969-1970 (1967-73 of course optimum career best)
His best shape of his life was Ali in Atlanta
Frazier & Buster Mathis, Jerry looked very strong
he had at least 10 one punch ten count knockouts by then
He punched holes in Chuvalo and Foster.

If he’s moving to a different era then he’s better off going backward not forward

Nixon only had 7 amateur fights, and at 18, he's headlining in Los Angeles IN 1971, He had great natural talent. Richard and you know more than anybody 160 lbs, power & speed, was arguably the toughest division

Part of me thinks he's clearly a talented guy and perhaps could upset a weak champ.

But then another part of me thinks he just didn't have what it took to become number 1.

You make a lot of sense but I think Smith would have too big and powerful for Quarry and he took Bruno`s best shots, I don`t think Quarry could hurt Smith.
