The announcer says: "At stake: an improved position as the outstanding challenger". I don't see that as the same as an elimination bout.

Also, even it was, he got jobbed by Norton, who got the next title shot, not Ali. You can as well say that Ali was jobbed by Norton, since he had just beaten him. When Ali beat Frazier there can be no doubt that he was the oustanding challenger.

Quarry was a damn good fighter, man. It's indeed sad how his life turned out, and the state he was in at the relatively young age of 50, but in someways he lives longer than the rest of us.

Strange then that the Ring ranked Ali higher during this time. In fact, Quarry was only ranked nr. 4 by them at the beginning of 1974, behind Ali, Frazier and Norton.

Clancy said Quarry had a Contract with Foreman, and Foreman walked on him.

Even George admits he ducked Quarry.

Again, Don King interjected himself to sign up George & Ali, and Quarry & King's ex-fighter Shavers got left in the dust of Boxing Politics.

Quarry took some shots from Shavers no doubt.

Then, why didn't they sue? You should remember that this is Jerry's trainer's version.

Anyhow, as I said, if Quarry got jobbed (which he didn't), it was by Norton (who got the title shot) and not Ali.

George says a lot. He also said he was forced to face Norton who was his mandatory contender. That mean Jerry wasn't.

Again, how was Quarry left in the dust by someone who was higher ranked by The Ring, who had beaten him twice and who had more or less cleaned out the other top contenders - which Quarry hadn't?

Ali had beaten Ellis, MacFoster, Lewis, Quarry, Patterson, Chuvalo, Bugner, Norton and Frazier (all ranked) since his last title shot. The ranked opponents Quarry had beaten since his was Lyle and Shavers. How on earth does this mean Quarry was the deserving challenger to Foreman and Ali was not?

Why did Norton get the title shot when he had just lost to Ali in September....the same month Clancy claims the contract for Quarry vs Foreman was signed or valid.

Obviously there was "backroom" politics going on by Foreman, Ali, & King to move Quarry out of the way so a Ali-Foreman big money fight could occur.

Foreman admitted to sparring with Quarry and Jerry getting the upper hand.....and Quarry was known for putting a whuppin' on big, lumbering heavyweights.

In retrospect, it wouldn't be too farfetched to think Quarry might have TKO'ed Foreman in 8 before Ali did it (King probably thought this too)

This is a very odd conclusion. If anyone got "jobbed" by this, it must have been Ali, who'd just beaten Norton. It's hardly arguably that Quarry, another Ali victim, got the short end of the stick.

I'm among the ones who see Quarry as a difficult match-up for Foreman. Had he his head screwed on right on the night he might have done something big.

But the simple fact remains that he wasn't shafted. Ali was clearly ahead of him in the ranking. He had beaten many more contenders, including Quarry himself. Ali's run between FOTC and Zaire must be one of the oustanding HW non-title runs ever.

In the mid-seventies, Jerry volunteered to have his brain x-rayed which showed a seperation of the brain two halves.

    Ali has the same situation.

I felt Quarry had the right style to beat Foreman...Jerry could beat the big slow guys and had the kind of chin you got tired of hitting..although Foreman was better than Foster,Lyle and Shavers, Thad Spencer,Joe Alexander,Buster Mathis,Etc...I had a hunch Quarry would beat big G. and so did Big G. but we will never know

George was wary of Quarry do to sparring with him after George turned pro. Story is the George started opening opening up on Quarry during sparring and Jerry took George to the woodshed and roughed him up pretty good. Leaving a lasting impression on Foreman.

Give it a rest. Some of the boxing magazines had Foreman vs Quarry previews on the cover.

I don't give a rats tail, Quarry was lucky he never fought Foreman in 1974 for the title... Jerry and Gil Clancy can claim they were ducked all they want, but team Foreman did them a favor by not signing to fight.... Frazier did Quarry enough damage as it was back in the summer of '74 up in New York...

Sure. It could have happened. Quarry was popular. But he wasn't the nr. 1 contender, possibly not even nr. 2, so he wasn't robbed of a title shot.

Ali was the nr. 1 contender, and had been for almost two years, when Foreman won the title. He then lost this spot by losing to Norton, but regained it by beating him. Norton then for some reason got the title shot while Ali instead solidified his position as the top contender by beating Frazier. The title shot was his.
