How would Quarry have done in the early 1900s ?
Fighting the likes of Marvin Hart
    Tommy Burns
    Fireman Jim Flynn
    The above he beats imo.
    Sam Langford
    Sam Mcvea
    Joe Jeannette
These are a lot harder fights, not sure he beats those, maybe 50/50.

    Jack Johnson.
Over a 20 rounds fight I'd say Jack either out points him or stops him late.

Thoughts on some of the above fights?

It would depend on how he adapted to the rules and conditions of the day. Glove sizes were different. Some fights were scheduled for many more rounds. And while Jerry wasn’t exactly a gusher like chuck wepner he DID have the tendency to cut and bleed which doesn’t bode well for longer evenings in the ring. But he was a tough guy with good boxing skills and little bit of power. And at 6’0” 195 lbs he’d be closer to the size of the average heavyweight of those times.

My guess is that he’d be a contender who chalks up some good wins. But I make no predictions about him winning the title.

I see it just like that.
Those were tough times and I think Quarry gets a few contenders beaten, he'd definitely be a name to watch.
But nearer the top of the tree, I think Quarry starts losing.
Such as Langford, he'd be cut open perhaps.
Don't see him beating JJ tho, he'd have moments but Jack wins it for me.

He could probably win the title at some point but i don't think he would be long reigning. I think he would struggle more with small heavies who were quick than larger slower ones. So i could see him beating the likes of Willard, Fulton, Morris etc. but losing to Langford.

He would be a top fighter for sure. Its just very hard to predict h2h due to us not having a lot of clear footage of Jeannette, McVea, Wills etc.

I imagine is very easy to get injured in those days under the conditions they fought. And from what I’ve heard purses were very minimal. Not that I’d want to be a pro fighter in ANY era but it must of really sucked back then

Purses were minimum in comparison to the last 60 yrs or so?
Yes probably, but for that era it was much better than working
on the docks, or in a cotton field.
Especially if you were good at it.

He would be the best heavyweight in the world from a technical standpoint barring possibly Johnson.

His biggest obstacle would prob be Langford. Little later he losses to Dempsey but otherwise he could be champ

Its an interesting question because Quarry could really fight and would be a bit more size friendly .. I dont think he beats Johnson or Langford , that's for sure but the rest who knows ?

He would have one irreducible advantage over teh other contenders.

    The color of his skin.

Before Johnson wins the tile, the color bar is no problem.

After Johnson wins the title, he still has the advantage.

He doesn't even need to beat Langford, McVea and Jeanette.

He just needs to beat the Kaufmans, the Ferguson's, and the Moran's of this universe.

If he can establish himself as the outstanding white contender, then Johnson literally can't say no.
