Greg Page and Tony Tubbs were good. and Quarry was above their level. Very good is where I would put Jerry, while you point out he beat a pre-prime Lyle you didn't do the same in that a pre-prime Quarry lost to Machen. The Ellis bout isn't usually viewed as a standard of where Jerry stands as his story of badly injuring his back just prior to the bout is accepted as greatly limiting what he could do in that bout. The two Patterson bouts might be the best indication of where the prime Jerry stands overall, above most (Patterson had no problems whatsoever with Machen) but clearly below the greats. A badly conditioned and well past his best Quarry was taking apart but Norton, I'm not sure at all how the prime Jerry would have done.

What are you arguing about here, where did I say Bugner beats Quarry? I watched his fight with Bodell and at the time and since I have never heard anything of Quarry receiving bomb threats. It obviously didn't make the media then or even since. Also why would Jerry Quarry receive bomb threats, just because he was an Irish American?

There were many American celebrities over these shores then, i'm not aware of any of them receiving bomb threats, why should they? I would imagine it was nothing more than a hoax.

Quarry took the Norton fight on short notice as a "fill-in". He had Norton hurt early, then ran out of gas. After a win in February, 1975, Quarry begged to put in line for a fight with contender Ken Norton. When first choices Oscar Bonavena and Jimmy Young bowed out with injuries, Quarry was placed into the Norton bout on 18 days notice. Norton had been training for five months. Nice post Longhorn71, Too bad Jerry did not stay retired at 62 bouts, thou he probably would have developed Dementia later at some time, HE DEFEATED 8 World Rated Heavyweights who all outweighed when they fought, Even Floyd Patterson, At the same time he was ranked in the top ten by WBA who seemed to be the sanctioning body for the ratings, in 33 of his bouts , and 32 in the top 5 (#1 to #5). 1-6-1 vs Former or current World Champions during his career, and 7-0 w 4 knockouts vs top ten and that is top ten when they fought. few world champions in any division beat that many or even fight them! Ali only had 32 Top Ten victories ! (Sarcasm-) Quarry also knocked out 2 number one contenders.
