Battle of the contender, who takes it.?
    12 rounds to decide.
Does Quarry get himself out boxed
Or can Jerry Crack Williams chin and put him down?

Jerry would get outboxed early, but this is not Quarry - Zanon. A prime, fast, agile Quarry may drop a few rounds to Williams' fast jab and combos, but I see Quarry catching Williams on the counter during an exchange and he would stop The Truth once he had him hurt within 5 rounds.

I've got something similar just a few rounds later! But William s definitely wins a few rounds before getting tagged.

I see Williams giving Quarry a hard time before Quarry's left hooks to the body take a a lot of steam out of Williams, with Quarry taking out Williams late or winning a decision.

Good fight. Quarry’s left hook might trouble Williams given that Carl had a soft spot for that punch. Counter punching might not be as useful in this match though because The truth boxed from the outside using a very effective jab. He wasn’t a come forward puncher which Jerry was able to time and catch . Not sure who wins but I’m leaning towards Quarry

Carl had a great jab and movement - Quarry went to the body/head well and had a solid chin....I think Carl uses his jab very well but Jerry get to him with a solid left hook before the 10th -Jerry could punch with both hands- Carl may very well be ahead when Jerry finds the opening-

I sometimes forget that certain fighters have passed away tbh. When I thought of this thread I knew Jerry was gone but slipped my mind that so had Carl. Wasn't till you mentioned RIP that I recalled. Both guys fairly young as well.

Jerry Quarry could punch, he kayoed Earnie Shavers in round 1 in 1973. He also gave Jimmy Ellis a real tough fight back on April 27 1968, in the final match of the WBA tournament, losing by a majority decision. He did suffer an unexpected knockout loss to George Chuvalo on Dec 12 1969, and before that on June 23 1969, he was stopped by champion Smokin Joe Frazier, in round 7. Jerry was quite a combination puncher that had the potential to be a champion, he had a heart of one. On June 17 1970 he stopped previously undefeated Mac Foster in round 7, he looked terrific that night working over Mac with solid body punches and combinations. Foster, later would go 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali, on April 1 1972, losing on points to Ali. Carl The Truth Williams went 15 rounds with IBF World Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes, on May 19 1985, in a nationally televised bout, he appeared to by many had done enough to claim the victory by decision as he swelled up Larry's eyelid, Carl displayed good speed and combination punching as well as a good left jab. Jerry in this bout would pressure Carl as he did to Jimmy Ellis, only this time he would be more aggressive, punishing Williams exposed torso. I see Jerry scoring a 9th round stoppage as Carl cannot withstand the body attack of Quarry's.

    Bump.

Carl Williams is among the best of rangey boxers who I could see Quarry beating, but it’s certainly not one I’d bet on, and it’s mainly due to the shaky chin of Williams, however if Quarry can’t find that chin, he probably drops a decision.

Quarry would have to find a way into range, Williams wouldn’t give him the counter punching opportunities, and Quarry wasn’t the best at getting inside against fighters who were able to and chose to keep it at range.

But, if Quarry just swarms him and takes him by surprise with explosive, sudden swarms in spots of the fight, he might be able to land something to turn the tide, but I’m really not sure either way. He wasn’t great from a technical pressure fighting perspective at closing the ring off or setting up attacks over the top, he was kind of clueless and wild when forced to go towards the opponent, but the tenacity and will may get it done on this rare occasion.

However, Carl Williams was solid on his best day, and if he was able to stay switched on and avoid getting taken out at any point, he would win the fight, Quarry isn’t necessarily high volume on the front foot enough to take a decision that way, and he certainly couldn’t outbox him. Williams had a great long jab, and had underrated power, it was just his chin that’s maybe questionable.
