Don't get me wrong, Henry Cooper was a very good fighter, he just would not have beat Jerry Quarry, Jerry grew up beating very tough Black fighter's , Henry beat White, Point? Black fighter's are better than white Fighter's, and in boxing anyway. Henry had a great career, does not quite measure up to Quarry's.

As much as 60's, 70's Heavyweights fought (much more than the last 20 or 30 years, except for Hollyfield, We did miss alot of great matchups, that could have been made at the time: Foreman-Quarry, Norton-Lyle, Bugner-Bobick, Quarry-Bonavena, Chuvalo-Cooper, Bunny Johnson-Bugner, Bonavena-Bugner, Foreman-Bonavena, Norton-Bonavena, Cooper-Bonavena, Ellis-Cooper, Cooper-Peralta, Frazier-Lyle, Frazier-Shavers, Ali-Bobick, Leon Spinks-Bobick, Bobick-Jeff Merritt, just too mention a few.

wow ,yea Ali was 188 lbs in 1968, I stand corrected. how in the hell did little Muhammad Beat Jerry in the first place WOW! (Besides having his "NUMBER?) Your right "Enry the lion hearted not only beats Quarry and ALI III in 1968. He gives a public Challenge to George Chuvalo!!! It would have to be a game of chess or backgammon, for you could not tie 'enry in the Ring with Chuvalo!

This seems an odd line of thought. Ordinarily a case is made for fighters of note beating other fighters of note. The best fighters tend to come from the better amateur pedigree.

Spencer fell apart after the Quarry loss.Quarry was not a great fighter ,but he was a very good one , one better than Cooper ever was. Both London and Bodell [Quarry victims]beat Walker easily, he was a glorified club fighter, exciting and big hearted ,but he never improved. Quarry after beating Patterson, was good enough to beat the best ever Cooper .

Let me simplify, Jerry fought tougher opposition!, Jerry was a bum amateur too, winning they National Golden Gloves 5 knockouts , (last 2 broken jaws, and in they Hospital!)
Jerry beat 8 world ranked fighter's few champs in any division accomplish that.

The best ever Quarry yes. 1968 though? We will have to agree to disagree.

Later on Quarry fought tough opposition. Not before 1968. by then the best Jerry had fought was Ellis and Patterson. Some Folks don’t think Quarry beat either of them. He drew with Alongi. Henry had already fought Ali, Patterson, Johansson and Foley. That’s tougher.

You can’t turn around and say Quarry fought tough black guys. He fought Bob Mumford who was a 12 fight loser without a win in 1968.

Difference being Quarry had beaten Spencer and Patterson and lost a split dec to Ellis.
Cooper lost to ,Ali, Ingo ,Floyd and split wins with Folley.
Cooper's best career win is a close dec over Folley ,[" some folks think he lost ,"] who bombed him out in 2 rds in the rematch. Both Ellis and Patterson were better than anyone Cooper ever beat. Quarry drew with Alongi in 66 ,2 years earlier, how is that relevant to his standing in 68?
Want to talk about Cooper losing to journeyman Amos Johnson in October 65?
In 68 Quarry had been a ranked heavy for 2 years ,where was Cooper in the rankings?

apart the Spencer fight and Ellis loss this was before the year in question. We are looking at the form Quarry showed against Willis Earl. A 185pound loser who busted Jerry up taking him the distance and lasted but one round against Dave Zyglewicz.

We need to differentiate between the older Quarry who beat Ron Lyle, Mac Foster and Ernie Shavers who was much, much more seasoned by then than he was in 1968.

yes and Ali was better than anybody Quarry had fought by 1968. Ingo, the pre 1960 version Cooper fought was also better than anyone Quarry had fought by 1968. Foley? He was better than Machen who beat Quarry. Floyd? Did Quarry really beat him?

yes but did Quarry beat either of those guys? The jury is still out on that.

Cooper had slipped out of international fights since 1966 and was defending his own title. But he beat Walker who beat Spencer so what’s the difference?

Yes quarry fared better with Patterson, I’ll give you that, but Cooper fared better against Ali.

Wyatt was black he beat Ziggy 10-0 at the Olympic Auditorium

MY POINT? -JERRY FOUGHT MUCH BETTER OPPOSITION! Henry Cooper would have pure hell with Quarry's Opponents, Jerry would have almost went undefeated vs Cooper's!
