We have discussed the Mike Quarry vs Bob Foster fight.

You just know Jerry would have wanted to lay Foster out just like Bob did to his brother.

Wonder why this fight was never proposed, nor ever happened?

I think it would have gone about 4 rounds with Jerry TKO-ing Foster.

I was thinking about this fight as well during the Mike Quarry-Foster thread, and i also think Quarry would win by TKO. Perhaps a bit later than round 4, but still.

Foster's power, strength and his ability to impose his will seemed to inflate when going from lightheavyweight to heavyweight.

Quarry was tough with a good chin, good technique and good punch. Think he would get to Foster, who never beat a good HW, after 4-5 rds. Foster could stop him on cuts, though.

Greetings Pontius; I think you were meaning 'deflate' instead of 'inflate' in the above post.
The reason this fight was NEVER considered is plain and simple; although Bob fought a handful of heavies early-mid 60's once he had established himself as a light-heavy wrecking ball, his only excursions into the heavy ranks after that appeared to be against either a champion (Frazier) or an icon (Ali). Had the fight taken place, yes, Bob could have cut Jerry with that jab but I don't think he'd have had any time to do anything with it. No way Bob was going to fight a 'mere' top heavy contender post-60's, he had everything to lose and nothing to gain.
Jerry (bloody or not) lands some serious leather in rounds 4-6 and dumps Foster for a TKO if not a clean KO...

Bob Foster, as great a lightheavy as he was, didn't do good against heavies, and Jerry Quarry would PARTICULARLY be at his best against Foster for revenge. Add the two together, and it's a no-brainer, Quarry would murder him in 3. It's Foster's one and only Achilles Heel, the weakness against heavyweights.

Bob is one of my favorite Lt. Heavys but to say his power and ability increased as he moved up is just wrong. Frazier Man handled him and Ali basicaly hit him at will.

Just because great heavyweights like Prime Frazier and Ali wrecked Foster doesn't mean any HW does. Foster's jab, speed and power could pose problems to Quarry. I see this as a 50-50 or actually lean in Fosters favour.

The subject is Jerry Quarry arguably the best contender in Hvy. weight history.
Foster dosn't have a jab that could keep Quarry off for long. Quarry would overcome this and as for power, Bob was a powerful Lt. Hvy. but I doubt if Quarry, who was in with some bangers would be to troubled by it.
I see it 75 - 25 Quarry unless Jerry gets cut.

Jerry flattens Bob for the count, no way Foster wins this via cuts as it won`t last long enough to possibly force a stoppage. Jerry would have been out for blood from the opening bell, and a motivated in-shape Jerry Quarry is a formidable opponent for just about any heavyweight, nevermind a frail and skinny lightheavyweight such as Foster was at the weight.

Jerry won`t be looking to counterpunch here, he is gonna come right at Bob and use his superior strenght and punching power to get him out of there early. Jerry had one of the best short left hooks of any heavyweight I have ever seen, and in my mind`s eye I see him laying out ol` Bob with one of them. This fight doesn`t make it to the 4th round, I`d bet the house on it.

Quarry by KO in 2 or 3.

We all know what happens when Foster faced a good heavyweight, and it wasn't pretty. Not to mention Jerry would want to ice him the way he iced his brother.

I somtimes wonder if the raw numbers of Fosters heavyweight career are misleading.

With better matchmaking he might have done a bit better.

Foster was outweighed by at least 20 pounds in all of his major heavyweight fights.

He just wasnt someone who could fill out to be a heavyweight. But I do wonder how he would have went in a weaker heavyweight era. Losing to Prime Frazier and a pretty close to prime Ali really isnt the best gauge.
