Jerry Quarry Vs David Tua - 15 Rounds??

I love Quarry, but he is way outgunned here. He might be able to counter-punch Tua for a couple rounds but then he starts trading and it looks like John Ruiz all over again, Quarry was a bit smaller so he probably gets knocked out of the ring, the difference in power is like a .22 vs a 44 magnum.

 

Depends on which Quarry shows up.
If it's the one Who had his own father in his corner, then he goes in to slug it out with Tua and might get cut at one point.
If it's the one gil glancy (his new trainer) convinced to use his actual boxing skills. Then it would look like the Lyle-quarry fight.
Jerry moves and counter punch and easily win a decision.

 

Quarry did good against the big sluggers like foster, Lyle, etc. The short pressure fighters tho, that's a completely different breed altogether. The closest guy to Tua on his resume is Frazier and he went 0-2.

Tua wasn't as fast or busy as Frazier, but he'd be bringing staggering power, weight, and a nice jab to the table. I think it would be a very entertaining fight as long as it lasts, but at some point Tua will drop him and the ref would need to save a stubborn battered Quarry from himself maybe within 7-9 rounds. He'd give a good account of himself tho and would outbox Tua in spots with his counters and ring IQ, but really lacks the size and strength to keep Tua off of him.

For similar reasons I don't see him beating Andy Ruiz or Rocky. The counter puncher wants space to be able to time his opponents. It becomes 10x worse when you're the smaller man in the ring.

 

Quarry has been outgunned in his career ( Shavers Lyle Foster ) to name some and he won because he was the better fighter just like hes better than lazy uninspired Tua. Quarry UD over 15

 

Why mention "lazy, uninspired" Tua? These threads typically involve fighters at their absolute best, and peak Tua was hardly lazy. He proved in the Ibeabuchi fight that he could keep throwing 'em in high amounts and maintain a steady pace in the later rounds.

I think Tua wins this by late-round KO. Against Frazier, Jerry was vulnerable to the left hook, and David's left was as quick and arguably harder than Smokin' Joe's.

 

Dont compare Tua to Frazier. Frazier was one of the greatest swarmer pressure fighters ever Tua doesnt even make the list. He has nothing for Quarry and nothing Quarry hasnt seen. Quarry is a class above the incredible overrated Tua.

 

Frazier was obviously greater than Tua historically speaking, but that doesn't change the fact that peak Tua presents a lot of the same problems Smokin' Joe does. Tua packed serious dynamite in that left hook of his, and could throw it fast, accurately and in vast amounts. Jerry will inevitably eat that left hook, but can he survive it? I personally don't think so.

 

I would go with Quarry to take a decision here.

Much more proven at the elite level.

 

I just disagree. Tua is terrible overrated and always blew the big one. Quarry is so much more sound and proven. Cant see Tua doing anything but losing here.

 

I can’t see quarry stopping Tua. His chin survived over fifty fights without a stoppage and that involved taking the best from Lewis, Rahman, Ibeabucci, Masksev and some others. Jerry has the boxing skill to outpoint Tua, but how many of David’s ripping hooks could he take over a period of 10-12 rounds? this is looking more and more like a potential win for Tua

 

Man very torn on this one. Think I’d lean towards Tua…Quarry did very well with punchers but for different reasons. Think Tua man eventually catches him or bad cuts. But wouldn’t be surprised if Quarry outboxed him either.

 

Tua's hook wasn't as quick as Frazier's.

 

IDK if Tua is able to cut Quarry that would help his cause immensely. Not having a long dominating type of jab lessens the chances. Quarry had a tough neck. He hit hard enough and put his shot together very well.

I'm gonna go with Quarry by Decision.

 

Tua threw it pretty damn fast. Check out the hook he hit Ruiz with that precipitated the KO, or the one that sent Maskaev onto ***** Street, or the one that rocked Rahman in their first fight (albeit after the bell). If Frazier did throw his hook faster, it wasn't by very much.
