Quarry about 198 lbs. Height: 6′ 0″ / 183cm Reach: 72″ / 183cm Tunney around 190 lbs Height: 6′ 0″ / 183cm Reach: 76″ / 193cm Quarry as usual ends up with the shorter reach. Will Tunney just move around the ring and outpoint Quarry over 15 rds?
I would have to pick him, if Ellis could out think Jerry, I'd expect Tunney to do the same.Earlier this year I had a discussion about Quarry with the famous trainer Jimmy Glenn ,who is in my avatar,he is very high on Jerry,"he beat everybody except Ali and Joe",but though Jimmy has forgotten more about boxing than I will ever learn,I have to go with the fast mobile Tunney to stay one step ahead of Quarry, who seemed at his best against the slower plodding bangers. Tunney would have hurt, outboxed and dominated Jerry, and I'm a huge Quarry fan. Tunney was just superior to Quarry.
I like and respect Quarry but he didn't beat everyone but Ali and Frazier .. he barely scrapped by an old Patterson, he lost to Ellis, he lost a freak KO to Chuvalo .. Jerry excelled against big, slower guys for the most part .. that being said while he was far more vetted than Tunney at heavyweight I think Gene was the real deal and had the skills and speed to beat him on points ..
H. E. when we had that particular conversation it was 4 am, Jimmy doesn't drink I was smashed. I think you may be being a trifle pedantic here.I'm not offering the tablets from Mount Sinai, just a fragment of a conversation.
I was a huge Quarry fan, but let's be real. A good heavyweight vs one of the all time greats: Tunney all the way.
Yeah I'll go with the consensus ,, Tunney by UD , he'd have to cut Quarry to stop him probably. Quarry doesn't have the horsepower to get Tunney outta there and he'd have to , to win.
