    Round 4

In the opening moments of the round, Jerry lands a 'tremendous' left hook to
    Chuvalo's jaw that staggers him.

Jerry opens up with a '3-punch' attack, but Chuvaol recovers, and pumps hard
    left hands to Quarry's mid-section.

Jerry Quarry back off, and starts boxing again, where he has success. Quarry throws
one-two's from outside at the 0:33 Mark, that land squarely on Chuvalo's face.

Jerry leaps in, and lands a good left hook underneath. Chuvalo is having some
difficulty with Jerry's hand speed, and starts to bull Quarry.

Chuvalo bullies Quarry back to the ropes, while holding and hitting. Chuvalo is then
    warned for hitting low.

Quarry lands a good one-two at the 1:44 Mark.

Quarry lands a sharp right hand to Chuvalo's jaw, and follows with a good left hook,
that begins to swell Chuvalo's right eye.

Chuvalo fires two body punches, and then hits low. Referee - Zach Clayton warns
    Chuvalo a second time.

Chuvalo lands a 'glancing' right hand that opens a 'slight' cut under Jerry's left eye
    as the round ends.

    Round 5

Jerry Quarry comes out with a quick burst, and scores with a quick
one-two to George's face, which swell his right eye.

Chuvalo attempts to bull Jerry backwards at the 0:45 Mark, but he is
getting hit with hard punches, while moving forward.

Quarry lands a good left underneath at the 1:00 Mark, and scores with
a sharp right to Chuvalo's left eye that opens up a small-cut.

Chuvalo is having a difficult time landing, as Quarry's hand speed is too
fast for George. Quarry is boxing well, by staying outside, then moving
in quickly to land one-two's and then backs out of harms way, staying
away from George and his brawling style.

At the 1:22 Mark, Quarry moves in from the outside and lands a big left
hook to George's right eye, which immediately begins to close.

Quarry doubles up on his jabs, and focuses on George's eyes. Quarry
lands a good right, and George's left eye is swelling.

Chuvalo can't get anything going, as Quarry has a 'great round', hitting
    the tough Canadian.

At the end of the Round, George walks back to his corner, with his
    right eye completely closed.

i do get it but how many other fights that ended with a 10 count are so disregarded? if quarry didn't hear the count, was too dumb to stand up or too dazzed from the punch to be aware of his surroundings those are his fault. chuvalo landed one big shot the whole fight and that made the difference...even if quarry COULD have stood up, he didn't.

Quarry is my favorite fighter of all time, but he could drive you crazy with his inconsistency.
Quarry, as he was known to do, made the fight a lot harder than it had to be, by not boxing enough. George clocked Jerry multiple times thru out the fight with big left hooks and continually rocked Jerry with very hard left jabs.

Jerry was slightly ahead at the time of the stoppage, but it was a rough night for both fighters.

    Round 6

George Chuvalo came out for Round 6 with a completely closed right eye, and swollen
    left eye.

Jerry Quarry was sporting a nick at the corner of his right eye, and a large swelling under
    the right eye.

Jerry went right after George's daaged right eye, and banged away repeatedly at the eye
    with left jabs.

Chuvalo was wild with his round-house swings, and could only score where he rough-housed
Jerry, by bulling him and hiolding him, while throwing hooks to the body.

Jerry was looking good, as he landed one-two's on George from outside, and patiently waited
to drop a left hook underneath as George moved in.

Chuvalo couldn't land with anything effective, and Quarry continued with good jabs at George's
left eye throughout the second-half of the round.

Jerry Quarry was in complete control as Round 6 ended.

    (Round 6 for Jerry Quarry)

    At the end of 6 Rounds the Scorecards read;

    Referee, Zach Clayton........3-3-0 (Even)
    Judge, Bill Recht................4-2-0 (Jerry Quarry)
    Judge, Artie Aidala.............4-2-0 (Jerry Quarry)

    Round 7

Before Round 7 begins, Ringside Physician - Dr. Harry Kleiman checks out George Chuvao's
closed right eye, and swollen left eye. - Dr. Kleiman informs George and his Manager -
Irving Ungerman that he will give George one more round, and will most likely stop the
    bout after the 7th Round.

At the bell, Jerry comes out fast again, and socred with a quick one-two, and backs it
up with a snap left hook to George's right eye.

Chuvalo attempts some body punches at Quarry's mid-section, but Jerry moves back to
    deflect the punches.

Jerry and George engage in close quarters, and both bang each other with medium power
puches, then Quarry clinches. At the break, Quarry throws a left hook, and is warned by
Referee -Zach Clayton for hitting on the break.

Mid-way through the round, Chuvalo can barely see out of his battered left eye, and Quarry
attacks with some vicious shots, battering Chuvalo around both eyes.

Chuvalo now has cuts around both eyes, and is absorbing many heavy punches at the 2:10 Mark,
as Quarry is punishing him with lefts and rights.

After a brief pause to catch a breath, Jerry moves in to throw a left hook, and George lands a
decent right hand over the top to Jerry's swelling right eye at the 2:45 Mark.

As Jerry attempts to back up, George throws a left hook from the 'rafters' of Madison Square Garden,
which catches Jerry on the top of his head at the 2:48 Mark.

Jerry then stumbles backwards across the ring and goes down on his backside. He gets up immediately,
as Referee - Zach Clayton moves in, and picks up the count at '3', where Jerry goes down to
    a squatting position.

A battered George Chuvalo, with a closed right eye, and nearly swollen shut left eye, sends Jerry Quarry
stumbling backwards, and to the canvas, as a result from a desperation left hook.

Jerry Quarry after getting tagged by a 'desperation' left hook from a 'battered' George Chuvalo
at the 2:48 Mark of Round 7, stumbled backwards and went to the canvas.

Jerry bounced up, as Referee Zach Clayton moved in, and picked up the Count at '3'. Jerry then
went to a squatting position as Referee Clayton gave the count.

Jerry did not make a move as Mr. Clayton was administering the count, and the '8-Count' Jerry spit
out his mouthpiece. As Mr. Clayton reached '9', Jerry still did not attempt to get up.

As Mr. Clayton reached '10', he turned and Jerry got up at the same moment. The Referee then
waved the fight over at the 2:59 Mark, with '1' second left in Round 7.

Jerry then went after Referee - Zach Clayton, and the 9915 in attendance at Madison Square Garden
erupted, and then roared in confusion. Jerry then screamed at Mr. Clayton, complaining that he
    never heard the count.

    After Fight Comments

George Chuvalo, 'I could see that the doctor (Dr. Harry Kleiman) was in my
corner during the 7th Round, and I knew he would stop it after I got back
    to my corner.'

Madison Square Garden, 'We'll try for a rematch, and hopefully these two
will sign a contract, and do it again as soon as they both rest and recover.'

Jerry Quarry, 'I feel that I got a bad deal, and I'll never fight here again.'

Dr. Harry Kleiman, 'I probably would have stopped it after Round 7. His right
eye was completely closed, and his left eye was a mess.'

Referee - Zach Clayton, 'He missed the count. I'm sorry for Jerry.'

New York Daily News, 'Jerry looked too dazed to understand the count
    from the Referee.

Irving Ungerman (George Chuvalo's Manager), 'I had the ice pack on George's
eye. It was ugly. I told the Doctor, to give us one more round after the 6th Round,
as George was still trying in there.'

I agree a Chuvalo win and, despite his long career, it was, without a doubt, his best win, despite the fact that Jerry had George a bloody, pulpy mess by the end of the sixth and would have stopped Chuvalo on cuts (the ring doctor was summoned to Chuvalo's corner after the 6th and told Clayton to stop it if Quarry reached the 'bad' area a few more times. It was Jerry's fault to not get back to his feet but this has always been one of those 'anomoly' fights to me. My $0.02

I do remember Don Dumphy saying repeatedly: "Where did Chuvalo get that jab?" :D Of course Quarry could always get jabbed into next week despite his talent.

    jowcol,

The 'victory' was George's 'best win' of his career, most defintely.

But, far from his 'best performance'.

George Chuvalo, who was 'infuriated' by the press before the bout, as many had
called him a 'professional loser', rushed to his dressing room after the bout, and
wrote in chalk on a big blackboard 'George Chuvalo, Winner'.
