Liston is tailor made for Quarry...guys who gave Quarry problems were pressure fighters and out boxers like Ali, but if you are slow with no head movement and speed you aint beating Quarry.
I think 1958 Liston would win but Quarry would beat the crap out of 1968 Liston.
Liston lost against Leotis Martin while Quarry beat and KOed Mac Foster, the guy that KOed Liston in sparring.
I think that in 1968 Quarry would KO Liston in round 8 or 9.

You right about the cutting. Liston would work that jab if nothing else. I believe by '68 if Jerry's eyesc don't get cut he would eventually take Liston out.

Remember Sonny was aging in dog years once he moved to Las Vegas.

71 Quarry vs 68 Liston could go either way but I give edge to Liston. Just because Leotis Martin did it doesn’t mean Jerry could. Before he could extend Liston to 7 rounds when he was vulnerable he might lose on cuts or run into some big shots. The jab was very effective against the short armed Quarry and Liston had a great powerful one. Even Chuvalo used the jab effectively against Quarry.

In his entire career Liston was never a big draw at the gate. He wasn't good for business, period. With his knockout power he should have been a draw but his sullen personality combined with his prison record and mob ties -- the entire stench that surrounded him -- turned the public off. I'm guessing whatever offer he may have received to fight Quarry was too small for the risk he'd have to take. I believe that in 1968 Quarry would have knocked Liston out. Possibly in an early round.
