In the 1st fight with Patterson, Floyd decked Jerry in the 7th with an almost invisible right hand,...it was so fast and well placed. I posted a vid of it in a thread a year or so ago.

Oscar wins. Quarry wears himself out hitting that lantern jaw and get's stopped late in the fight.

One of the more up in the air subjects I've seen here over the years, and Oba Carr into it too (kidding, I get it).

i agree with several opinions here, close fight, maybe ringo would be the aggresor here and he would win a close ud

The poll somewhat baffles me in that I don't think quarry would knock out Bonavena.

Bonavena was something like a heavyweight Gene Fullmer.

With each on their best day, I'd pick Quarry to decision Oscar. Quarry could box, move and counter punch really well when he wanted to. Oscar was tough as nails and a rough houser, with his own unique set of boxing skills.

Really interesting fight, with both guys about the same size.

oscar bonavena is probably the strongest hw "pfp" ever, i don“t think that he could match strength with the strongest guys who would outweight him by 20-40 pounds.but still he was a complete animal.
it would have been very interesing watching him against foreman. chuvalo was another ****ing rock, even foreman had to use the jab and he was using the footwork against hm and moving around ,(of course this one was a very light version of foreman, he weighed 214 pounds)

Nice comparison. Never thought of that. I think Gene was a notch above Bonavena though.

A focused in-shape Quarry beats Bonavena like a drum. Ron Lyle stated that Ringo was stronger and more physical than Quarry in his autobiography. But Quarry was more nimble

I can't see a pvp Jerry losing to Oscar. Bonavena rocks Jerry on several occasions but Oscar wasn't a whole lot different than Chuvalo, perhaps even more 'style less'. Jerry had George a pulpy mess, Oscar probably winds up much less so, but Quarry would land cleaner, more often, and would not be in against someone who could box a lick, one of Jerry's weaknesses. Quarry UD
Sidebar: What was Oscar's Biggest Win? Forget the 'good efforts in a losing cause mantra'

Anybody who had two left feet , and came to Jerry was in for a long (Ron Lyle) or a short (Earnie Shavers!) Evening! Bonavena himself chided out of at least three occasions of fighting Quarry, One was signed!!! May 25, 1973 MSG. Quarry was originally supposed to fite #8 Ranked Venezuelan Jose Luis Garcia. Who was Ko'd by Joe Alexander in the First round in Caracus. Then Teddy Brenner Traveled to Atlantic City To Talk to Oscar .

Bonavena first took the fite than quickly reneged citing he needed more time to train, all fareness to Oscar, he probably did need more time to train! these guys were gladiators!, Than Jerry had intestinal flu, yellow jaundice, quipped Archie Moore (Shavers, DON KING CONFIADANT). so finally Shavers fites and ko's 4TH ranked Jimmy Ellis, and the rest is history. Quarry had a better common opponenet record vs Oscar , which does not mean a thing probably ranked better during his career (Ring, WBA)-close. take the C outta Close you have "lose" and I C Oscar loses a TEN-Round Decision MSG.

I voted the same way a lot of strength in the ring and style wise a tough one for Quarry because Ringo could crowd you and he was shorter and awkward. Jerry would trade and Ringo would be right there. close fight Draw sounds good style wise

Oscar would win a close one against Jerry, probably a majority type call, especially in a 12, or 15 round fight.
