Jerry Quarry vs Oscar Bonavena?

Ha ha ! Quarry was walking it against Chuvalo and made the mistake of getting complacent. He was still relatively inexperienced at the time but it was still a major embarrassment and set back.
Oscar would certainly have landed shots against Jerry but Jerry at his best was excellent at pulling back and riding a shot before landing hard, accurate counters.
Boxing is subjective by its very nature and this would have been a terrific fight for sure.

 

A draw, probably a split one. They do enough to offset each other, making it too close to call.

 

The Chuvalo fight version of Quarry finds a way to lose the version vs Mac Foster wins. Many would say Quarry was much better Ellis had decisively whipped Oscar floored him twice where Quarry had the big win vs Spencer then lost a closer fight to Ellis. But vs Ali and Frazier Oscar did much much better. Quarry was beaten badly in all 4 especially the second fights were no contests. Oscar was competitive and able to last against each Quarry couldn’t stand up to them. I think Oscar was a little heavier and stronger slightly longer reach he was more rugged. He went down more then Quarry but it was more of a balance thing or exhaustion vs Ali.
But Quarry with his head on right was a better boxer so slight advantage to him. Oscar didn’t have height and only 1 inch reach so Quarry wouldn’t have those disadvantages he normally had.

Of all the pick ‘em fights, this one might be the most pick ‘em.

Quarry at his absolute best, but only maybe.

I am with you, not an easy fight to formulate a winner, thinking maybe the earlier version of Quarry, say 66/69 might have a better chance of victory, with him being lighter and more mobile, utilising his counter punching abilities, I see the later heavier, more slower Quarry, would present Bonavena with a more stable target, so it would look like the Chuvalo fight to a degree, but yes, not an immediate winner for me.

Quarry UD. They are pretty close in overall ability, but Quarry had better skills. I don’t see him stopping Oscar but a competitive unanimous decision as he would have good success countering the somewhat crude Bonavena
