as far as toney goes, there's a huge difference between toney being a fat ass and having trouble with weight and jones bulking up to win a title at heavy and then coming back down to 175. i agree with your assessment of ruiz in the jones fight.

Are we thinking of the same Jerry Quarry? :huh

The same fighter that got beaten in his prime by Eddie Machen?

    Jones would beat Quarry.

Based upon Bert Sugar's lowly ranking of Roy Jones i've picked Quarry.

Saying Jones chin wasn't tested is either silly or ignorant, ignorant as in you haven't actually seen the fights where it was tested. Just watch the first Tarver fight for 1 thing and come back and say his chin wasn't tested, also make sure you watch Tarver's pre-title fights where he was scoring some brutal KOs and say he didn't have a chin

Saying he purposely didn't fight the premier fighters is another myth. Aside from he fought plenty of top tier champs/contenders most of the men he didn't fight were avoiding him, he tried to make fights with Benn, Eubank, Rochiagani, Hopkins 2 and couldn't make them. Boxers in his division rightly wanted a king's ransom in many cases to get in the ring with Jones and Benn/McClellan were promoted by King who would demand a long term contract with Jones in order to make those fights, Jones proposed a 1 time fight for less money and was turned down

Quarry wasn't a massive puncher anyway, Ruiz did try to fight Jones like the bigger man and tried to walk him down, guess what happened? He got countered and hurt for his efforts, the same thing would happen with Quarry, Jones is a big puncher for a LHW and would hurt and get Quarry's respect

:rofl:rofl..We thinking of the same Roy Jones? The same fighter who Danny Green ko'ed? The Machen fight was waay before Quarry's prime D.T. I think you must know that...like the Green ko was after Jones prime. Let's be honest at least.

The Machen loss certainly is a pre-prime Quarry and Machen was very good but that loss and others do possibly show a pattern for Quarry against speedy types:

    Ali (dominated)

    Ellis (lost)

Old Patterson (could have gone either way)

    Machen (lost pre prime)

    Mathis (won a wide UD)

I think Jones can pull off this type of win curtesy of our own GreatA
