This is a young Quarry against a past his prime, but always dangerous Liston. How does this one go if they fought in 1970?

My guess is Quarry by late stoppage.

Have to go with the young lion on this one. Of course the Liston jab would be something to still negotiate around, but even that would be creaking at this stage of the game. The counter-puncher was in his prime at this time and can see a Quarry victory.

In 1970, I gotta go with Quarry. Prime vs prime, Liston stops him (probably on cuts)

I think Quarry can win this but the Liston jab may still bust Jerry open then he may get stopped on cuts. It would depend on some variables. Who the referee is, what round, how bad the cut is.

Based on the scenario, Jerry; after all we're talking the 'Wepner Sonny'. PvP? Jerry couldn't do any real damage to Sonny and would eat the jab and shots all night. If Jerry opted to stay away? Jab, jab, jab. But we know Jerry, he would be forced into a fight, by his own choice, and be stopped, probably on deep cuts...

I've wondered why Quarry and Frazier never fought Liston, say, 68/69 era. My own explanation is that neither had to. As Sonny had been personna non grata since the debacle that was the 2nd Ali bout. The Liston of that era would've given both problems as he was still a formidable puncher, and then there's that long jab. Frazier more so as Joe's style was tailor-made for Liston, as opposed to Quarrys' counter-punching style. Interesting matchups to say the least. I think at this stage of Liston's career either Frazier or Quarry would've prevailed. Joe because of his style of relentless attack. Wearing Liston out and the fact that Frazier was at his peak physically. Quarry? Younger, faster, strong, fearless, and his style is the sort that was needed to take Liston. Let Liston lead with the Jab, sidestep, and counter with Left hooks and Right hands.

I think a 1970 Quarry would prevail because of age and styles. Bad matchup for Frazier, even then.

Jerry could not hurt Sonny Liston? But Mac Foster could, and did!! What in the hell is going on here? We are not talking Mike Quarry, we're talking Jerry , who had a 37-7-1 (23 knockouts) Record, Against they best Black Heavyweight Atheletes any Fighter has ever faced besides Muhammad Ali !! Jerry could'nt hurt Liston in 1970!? Just knock em out! And within 6 . God Bless Leotis Martin, Yet he would have had a real problem with "Irish" Jerry too. The posts on here seem to make Quarry out to be a powder puff, yet the real powder puff with size Joe Bugner, has turned into a world beater, without ever beating one!

Jerry hurt anyone he hit EVERYDAY, especially 1970, when he attained the Number # 1 Heavyweight Contender in the World (July Ratings of that year.)

He seems to be unaware that Quarry nearly paralyzed Ali with a body shot.
