Poor Quarry, if he doesn't get knocked out cold he's going to get sliced to ribbons. He won't be able to outbox Liston or pressure him.

If 1969-1970 is the proposed time frame then Quarry might have a chance against the faded version of Liston. But five years earlier and beyond Sonny beats him in a mismatch.

Quarry would always have a chance with the Liston type as long as his head was on right, the younger version would lose but the more mature version could get inside and bang to the body and head. Liston was a better fighter overall than Lyle,Shavers and Mac Foster but Sonny fit into the mold of the slower type and was actually smaller than those men.

I give Quarry a good shot at upsetting Foreman and I give him a good chance against Sonny, who was technically better than Foreman but just as slow

Gotta go with Liston and I'm a big Quarry fan but I think of Jerry's 2 fights with Patterson and then Liston's 2 fights with Patterson and I see see Sonny winning. A prime Liston really wasn't all that slow. Sure compared to the 64 version of Ali he was slow but then again anyone would look slow compared to that Ali. Liston could pump a quick powerful jab in his prime and his 14" reach advantage would be tough for Quarry to get around. Jerry would have to get in close and when he does he still has to deal with Liston's straight right and uppercut. Liston wasn't a small man either. He had a tree like torso to go along with those big long arms and he could punch like hell. Boxing as we know is all about styles and I don't think Quarry has the right style to beat a prime Liston.

Jerry was a good heavyweight with good quickness and counterpunching skills. He had snappy power especially in that hook to the body.

With that said I don't think this is a good fight for him. Liston had the devastating jab and he always used it. Quarry would not hold up from that jab. Liston's power shots would spell a bad ending for Quarry.

If he's lucky the fight end on cuts.

I agree. Liston just is better & his power would end it.

Small factual corrections: I believe in Liston's 7' wingspan, but a 14" reach advantage over Quarry is an exxageration even given that, do the math.

Also Liston was a bit bigger than Shavers. In height, weight, & wingspan.

Even if he was at his best Quarry is getting a terrible beating from Liston who is a huge jump in class from a Lyle, Mathis, Foster, ect. It would not be pretty.

Liston would kill him. Quarry too easy to hit.

Might stop Jerry on cuts and gain a TKO. Liston wouldn't knock Jerry out.

Liston was the kind of freak that can end a fight with absolutely anything he throws .

Like one of Listons knockouts victims said " Even Sonny Breathing on you HURTS "
