Jerry Quarry vs....

I think Oscar Bonavena and Joe Bugner beat him by close decision. Quarry beats Wepner by decision. Quarry beats Mildenberger, London, Cooper, Blin, and others but it's not easy. Quit overrating Quarry white people.

 

The Chuvalo-Quarry fight was a fluke...the same version of Jerry that took Mathis apart would decision Chuvalo in a rematch, busting him up in the process. Jerry beats "glad to be here" Joe Bugner by a deciaion, and ko's Wepner, Mildenberger, Kirkman like he did Brian London and S****iron Johnson and Thad Spencer. I see Bonavena beating Jerry by a decision in a very rough bout, but Bonavena was cleverer than given credit for and would beat Quarry much like he did Chuvalo.

Chuvalo vs. Quarry II should have been made, I'll give you that. Yes, he went 2-0 (1) vs. Brian London and he probably would have beat Cooper and a few other white boys as well. Bugner is not a confident pick but I think he could pull it off in a squeaker... this isn't Frazier and Ali we're talking about, it's Quarry.

Anyway, It's not Quarry I have the problem with, it's his delusional fans.

I think Jerry was the best white guy Ali beat. I think Jerry could beat any of those guys. I see Chuvalo did beat Quarry but I think Jerry was a little better overall fighter.

Quarry was like an NFL QUARTERBACK, too much credit when he lost, but only too the best, and probably too much credit when he won, but hey 53-9 against the toughest competition in the world -ok

Quarry was a very good fighter especially in the late 60's and early 70's. Frazier first destruction of him I consider one of Frazier's best wins because Quarry on that night looked quite good. I wouldn't rule out Quarry against any of the names mentioned I'd give him at least a 50/50 shot against any of those guys prime for prime.

I think it would've been interesting to see Quarry in his prime from 1978 to 1984. I would've liked to see Quarry on a good night challenge Larry Holmes. I'd expect Holmes to whoop him but it still would be an interesting fight to see. Also I'd like to see Quarry take on the WBA champions of the early 80's also Quarry vs ****ey. Skip a few years later I'd be interested to see how Quarry would've done against Holyfield when he was first entering the division. Again I wouldn't favor Quarry over a young Holyfield but Quarry early on had the kinda craft to potentially give anyone trouble.

 

Quarry is a guy often thought of as someone who would have been the Man if not for a few greats in his way, being Frazier and Ali.

This is not true, the guy was just not consistent. He was a great contender who matched up well against sluggers but would not be able to beat all the guys on this list. He would win some, lose some. And he did lose to Chuvalo cleanly.

 

Fair enough. He was however an exceptional contender.. Few men would have racked up as many quality wins in that era or survived as long taking some of the beatings he took
