Lots of Quarry post lately. I just thought I would post one of my favorite KO'S ever and a clip that I haven't watched in years until this morning. Quarry knew how to fight a southpaw and was looking to land this counter right hand and when the opportunity arose, he took advantage and closed the show. Sorry, but I geek out of **** like this.

That was a beautifully timed counter right hand--on the button!! (Quarry was always a very effective counter puncher.)

He's one of the best Heavyweight counterpunchers ever imo. That skillset helped him defeat a lot of really good, BIG heavyweights in his era. What I love most about this clip is that you could see it coming. He was looking for that right hand counter in the minute leading up to the KO. Textbook punch when fighting a southpaw.

Nice counter but Bodell was coming in with his chin wrapped in a bow.

I remember reading Gil Clancy say once that the best natural puncher he ever handled was Jerry Quarry.

As far as great counter rights by Jerry, this is my favorite. Check out the sequence at 7:14 between he and Thad Spencer

Another great one. Thad Spencer was a good fighter. He was never the same after back to back losses to Quarry and Leotis Martin. He took a lot of damage in those two fights.

Yeah, but he only said it that way because spending so much time with him socially, he knew that Jerry and his wife, Mavis, were nudists. And he was a puncher.

Never really seen Boddell fight. Southpaw eh? Didn't realize he was a leftie. His defense seemed very open but that was a quality right hand from Quarry nonetheless.

Boddell was a solid fighter but a very European style guy. Upright, and not very creative. Mostly straight punches but good footwork. He beat Bunger, London but came up short against Henry Cooper and Thad Lewis. Quarry ripped him to shreds.

Even an old Quarry in last significant win over Lorenzo Zanon (Zanon would go on to win the Euro title and challenge Larry Holmes) managed to pull out a victory with a right counter. A peak Quarry would have played with Zanon and destroyed him.
