Let's get Leon out of the picture and replace him with Jersey Joe Walcott of the Louis bouts. With two fights against a ageing Ali what's the score ?
Can the past prime contender get a win over Muhammad.. Or even make it a double in the rematch??

If Leon Spinks who was more of a CW could defeat a old Ali then so
could JJW who was more of a CW too. Spinks had only 7 fights and way
less exp than JJW. JJW on pts.

Of course walcott would be a good rival for early 70s Ali. 78 Ali losses badly

Walcott was a brilliant fighter, Ali in the 70`s did a lot of great things but had more flaws than in his first stage 60`s prime by `78 he didn`t have much left and become showing signs of parkinson`s.

I have jersey winning the first fight by wide decision. The rematch could be a lot closer if Ali can dredge up one more good performance. Walcott had bouts where he could let the other guy in and take rounds off. Or he could be over confident. If that's the case here, Ali maybe replicates Louis against Jersey in their second fight.

    Two beat downs more likely.

If Walcott was around in the 70's, he'd have likely been a Norton like headache for Ali

Very interesting matchup. The Ali of '78 would probably go 0-2 against the Walcott of '46-'47 but I'd give the Ali of 70-74 verus the same Walcott a slight edge. But, even then, Walcott would still have the game to beat him.
