Yes I visit him @ the vets home. I burn dvd's of his fights for everyone to watch & I bring him some of his favorite foods once or twice a month.
Very good but also difficult question, IMO Johnson was the better pure boxer, he had the better skills, but Walcott´s style was more tricky, and pretty unortodox, that means that it could also have been a bit more effective...
Actually, Johnson didn't enter their fight with an injury. He suffered the injury when he was knocked down at the end of the second round and collapsed as a result during the third.
When I was younger I used to see him standing on the corner getting ready to get on the casino bus for AC. Man he looked great then all chest. I also worked at the gym with his nephew who was a one time P.A. State MW Champ at a PAL gym. Built just like him but short. Then yrs later I just looked him up and asked to visit. I burned DVDs of his fights and they would set up a big room for everyone to watch. He told me when Liston lived in Phila they would spar sometimes and that Liston couldn't touch him. He had the onset of dementia by then so he would go in and out. Still had a physique that would put a 25 yr old to shame. Met one of his daughters she was literally jaw hanging gorgeous!
Wow, awesome that you got to see Johnson, I hope he was well when you did. Just a quick note on the KO Walcott has over Johnson - I wouldn't look into it; Johnson injured his back horribly from a flash KD in the second round. Johnson out-boxed Walcott in the first. I think Johnson was the better pure boxer, but Walcott was flashier. Johnson's jab was better, and I think he was a better ring general. Walcott had crazy feints and other-worldly head-movement, as well some nasty counters but Johnson was better at getting a guy to do what he wanted him to. At heavyweight, Walcott was clearly better H2H, but P4P I'm going Johnson and sticking that way.
