I'm backing Jersey Joe to befuddle the mauler and knock him out late Jack offers power he has felt speed he has measured and a tenacity he has tasted before. A combination of all three could serve to see Jack pull a win out of nowhere on an off moment unlikely but I see knockdowns in Jack's favor early but he won't make it to the final bell he'll be timed and put in his place from the mid rounds onward tamed in a similar manner as seen in the Tunney bout. But what say you classic am I star struck again by my rewatch of the Louis fight? I'd like to hear your opinion.
Walcott is light years above dempsey in skill and would give him a boxing class but i suspect that dempsey would catch him in some point. Split wins and defeats in series
Prime Dempsey catches the man who has way too many losses to beat the likes of a prime Dempsey who was very very fast and light on his feet.
Dempsey wasn't Rocky, he would be in quick, bobbing and weaving.Walcott would be under pressure from the start, mid rounds ko for the Mauler imo.Dempsey was washed up when Tunney got him and Louis was not prime when Walcott took him to a debateable decision.
Tough battle for JD, he had power and threw punches in bunches but a still potent Joe Louis struggled with the very fit and crafty Walcott who rose to the occasion when in tough. Walcott could counter very well and had power in both hands. I think JD could possibly get the win but may be a decision or a stop but Jack may have to pick himself off the canvas - It could really go either way - Walcott would handle most of the top in that era - Jack Dempsey being the hardest but both men came up from the school of hard knocks - Walcott had to beat a bunch of tough black contenders like 6'2 Elmer Ray (who was on a 50 fight win streak), Jimmy Bivens, Lee Q Murray, Omelio Agramonte, Curtis Sheppard, Harold Johnson, Ezzard Charles and some tough white guys like Joe Baski and Joey Maxim, 6'3 Ollie Tandberg, 6'5 Hein Ten Hoff, 6'5 Johnny Shkor, Tommy Gomez,Lee Oma While I love Dempsey and think possibly his power to possibly pull him out of this -realistically Walcott would be the most savvy and experienced fighter he would have faced along with Gene Tunney but Walcott had more power than Tunney in either hand so this would be Jacks toughest test and Walcott could beat him.
Whilst I love Jersey Joe, Dempsey at his body ripping best busts him up here. Not with out being out foxed for a few rounds tho, but eventually, Dempsey s work rate has Walcott in trouble. Ill say Jack kos him in 8.
I think Dempsey breaks him down and wins late. I don't think Walcott could handle that pressure, and prime Dempsey's speed of foot would make it a lot harder for Walcott.
ALL GREAT FIGHTERS, nothing to be ashamed of and he beat them all in return matches- Great resume for Jersey Joe
Walcott had an exceptional resume against elite punchers, but the two greats that he fought (Louis and Marciano), managed to beat him by the finishers logic! My guess is that Dempsey has a similar story. Walcott clowns him, but Dempsey gets to him at some point!
Losses to greats and poor conditions who did Dempsey fight that was close to Jersey Joe in ability? Gene isn’t the answer either.
I can see it going either way really. Walcott absolutely capable of knocking Dempsey down and that probably happens early. Walcott wins more rounds than he loses until he catches the hook Dempsey had been looking for.
