Wow that was great man! So many clips I havent seen b4. Im 52 now and I tried emulating his foot work since the first time I saw him on VHS tapes. Mesmerizing to watch. Thanks brother
Great work, Rez! One of your best. So many great clips showing not only his boxing ability but also his down to earth nice guy personality. Again. great work!
Jersey Joe is king. I'm happy he's getting his dues. If someone, who had never seen him fight and just looked at his record, they would assume that Walcott wasn't all that, but to actually see the guy and his moves, then they'd realise what a talent he really was. Bad luck and break s in his life affected his career, but his skills show through here.
I don't want to hijack this thread but I didn't want to ask a question outside of this thread since it is that video that leads to my question. When Walcott ko's Charles they call it a massive upset...actually 9-1 odds. Seems Charles was favored 5-1 in the 2nd encounter but some felt Walcott was robbed...especially Joe himself. What was the general perception of these 2 in the years between Louis and Rocky? Were they seen as evenly matched or was Walcott seen as a huge underdog by experts and/or fans of the day?
Beautiful. my TOP 3... JJ Walcott Ezzard Charles Lloyd Marshall the Cream of ANY Stable of Fighters, Money Makers and Influence & Inspiration to the rest of a Top Stable. a Manager's Dream Team!!!
I'm pretty sure that Walcott was seen as the underdog for the first 3 fights, not certain about the 4 th. I think these two guys were quite evenly matched and if marciano hadn't been around, would have had at least another fight between em.
