Has anyone seen any Walcott fights that weren't against Charles, Marciano, or Louis? And more to the point, are there any fights of his that you're sure exist that weren't against the aforementioned three foes? I'd believed that Rex Layne was another fight of his available, but I have never seen that one.
Charles, Louis, Marciano, Layne and Hoff are it. Anything else would be very rare. Walcott Joe also gave a testimonial in 1953
I think There is another film out there of Walcott beating olle Tandburg in Sweden. I am sure I’ve seen it, unless it was footage of the Hoff fight from another angle.
How does Tandburg look in the fight? Good or bad? I saw footage of Walcott against an opponent I thought was Hoff and the opponent looked good but re-watching the footage of Hoff now and he looks pretty poor for some reason I think I may have seen the Tandburg footage too. Either that or it was a very good cherry picked clip of Hoff from their fight
I think that is the footage I must have thought was the Tandburg fight. Not understanding the language of the commentary I saw it on YouTube a while back and thought it was a separate fight to the first footage since in this version the angle is closer to the over head lights making it appear they fought in White gloves. I had presumed it was another opponent since the other time I saw Hoff they fought in dark gloves. This footage of Hoff showed the gloves looking much paler than in the other one. So I think I was entirely mistaken!
I love watching Jersey Joe. His whole style is just so unique. The footwork and baiting his opponents with it. How do you think he does against a heavyweight Chris Byrd?
Hoff was a strong puncher. Here he is scoring one of the best devastating one punch knockouts anyone is likely to see. This content is protected
Yes, I love that style. He makes room for the punch he wants to land. And his movement draws a fighter in. He shifts his weight from heel to heel in order to pivot from what side he chooses. So if he wants a jab from an opponent he turns a certain way with the weight on the foot coresponding to the hand he uses to counter. I know sugar Ray Leonard especially credits Walcott for being very influential to him stylistically. Chris Bryd was a slick fighter. But I don’t think he could fight too. Walcott could also fight. I think Walcott would fight aggressively toward Bryd just to open him up, then he would be ready for his response. Either that or the two of them stink the place out.
