This would be a fascinating matchup! Tunney was an excellent ring technician but peak Walcott was a cagey fighter who had sneaky power. I think Walcott lands the heavier blows and does just enough to finish strong and pull out a close UD--roughly 8-6-1 on the scorecards.

With my boy Walcott peak vs peak, but if they fought a 5 fight series Tunney would probably win the majority. He was far more consistent

Walcott actually beat some decent heavyweights so he gets my vote by default.

I always thought that this one would be a bit more exciting than people think.

I think that Tunney would fight more with the style that he employed in the Carpintier and Heeney fights, than the style that he used in the Dempsey fight.

Walcott would use his usual style, but would set the usual traps, so we woudl see some exciting exchanges.

Perhaps it even ends in a trilogy.

Walcott is not on this level and this poll makes him the most overrated boxer in history. I see Walcott getting 2 rounds of 10 against Tunney maybe on a good day.

On what planet is Heaney (and an end game Carpenter who was a nothing at heavy) to be considered in the same sense as Walcott?

    Hi Guys.
A very interesting match up, not sure I have seen this pairing before, I would fancy Tunney to emerge as the winner via a wide points decision, for sure Walcott would employ his arsenal of tricks, the shuffle, the side on stance, turning his back then letting go with sneaky rights, etc, but in Tunney with have one of the most intelligent HWs to enter a ring, and I don't mean accodemently, he was a student of the sweet science, who would study his adversaries weaknesses and strengths long before they enter the ring, he would be well versed in Joes antics, and be prepared to counter them, I am not one for " overrated / underrated " one man's meat, etc, but I feel Tunney was a tough and extremely gifted fighter, his courage and fortitude were off the scale, for any fighter to turn up at Willam Moulduns office the morning after being near beaten to a pulp by the threshing machine that was Greb demanding a rematch, is either stone bonkers mad, or a very courageous fighter, firm in his ability to beat any and all opponents.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.
