With all due respect Ali was one of the best technicians and he knew frazier's only weapon was that left hook, but holy **** that hook! If Ali couldn't figure out how to properly negate Joe's hook over 44 rounds I don't see walcott doing that
I'd give Frazier as good of a chance as I would Frank bruno vs the guy from the all state commercials. But In all seriousness i can't see walcott going the distance with Frazier, Frazier hit too hard and as good of a fighter as Walcott was he did have a glass chin, his defence was very good but he would end up getting caught at some point with a fight ending hook
Walcott certainly didn't have a glass chin. He made a career out of beating punchers. A knockout win over a professionally active Walcott, is a stiff test of a fighters finishing ability.
Walcott's chin wasn't in the class of Chuvalo's or McCall's,but it certainly wasn't glass, he faced a lot of punchers.
Bad style match up for Walcott. He would have his moments early, due to his poetic footwork, but would be ground down by Smokin Joe. Probably a late stoppage.
Did Joe break Chuvalo eye socket? I know that it was an awful cut that somehow got to the bone or something odd. Joe has mentioned there was concern that George could lose his eye had a foolish deciosnd been made to continue the fight.
Jersey Joe was a tricky fighter and no joke whatsoever as a puncher and boxer. But Frazier had a style like Marciano in some ways, relentless and with a seemingly inexhaustible, shattering left hook and short right. JJ might not have made it eleven rounds.
I would pick Frazier to stop him in the double digit rounds. Good competitive fight while it lasts. 2 of my favorites so I would love and hate to see this one
Ali always had trouble with the left hook - Cooper dropped him with it, Norton hit him much & Frazier dropped him hard- Just like Holmes had trouble with right hands- Walcott did pretty well against the best 2 hand puncher the Heavyweight division - Joe Louis and did pretty well with Marciano in first fight- JJW had footwork slickness and power in both hands- JJW was erratic but on a good night he could handle Frazier on a bad night NO
You likely are right in your prediction-though it is opinion-but Jersey Joe was at most 10 lbs. lighter. He weighed a typical 195 vs. Marciano, & a peak, not overweight Frazier did not weigh more than 205. For Foster he scaled 29, but the comments at the start note that the scale was likely 4-5 lbs. over-lust be to make Foster look heavier, he had trouble adding weight.
Think it’s def an interesting fight but don’t think I can add to what hasn’t been said. Walcott wins a lot of rounds but his chin eventually turns on him. And yes Frazier’s pressure was different then Marciano’s crouch and faster.
Could this look like Frazier/Machen? Joe was a bit green still and Machen a bit past it. Walcott hit harder a level above machen but a sharper prime Frazier also another kettle of fish. Anyone buying what I'm selling?
As everybody knows, I'm a big Walcott fan. However, I hate to say the above is true, but it is. This is the worst style to present Walcott with. He would drop Joe on a flash KD while off balance on a counter shot, but all in all, Frazier wouldn't give Walcott the space and timing he needs to control the fight. He makes Joe look bad in spots, but in the end, he likely losses by TKO sometime past the 10th or so.
Then you are extremely cool JJW was a great fighter imo. Knock off ten years and put him up against Marciano (and please keep in mind, I like both fighters, JJW more though).
